Sherman H. Book, 82

Sherman H. Book, 82, of Lititz, formerly of Leola, PA, passed away on February 19, 2015 at the Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy Center. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Henry and Gladys (Plummer) Book. Sherman was the husband of Patsy L. (Jones) Book for 62 years.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was a high school guidance counselor for Ephrata School District and Conestoga Valley School District. Sherman founded the Lancaster County College Night at Conestoga Valley High School, and was recognized with the LNP’s Red Rose award. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Leola. He was an Eagle Scout, an avid bridge player, enjoyed weaving Nantucket baskets, wood turning and rug braiding. Sherman was a lifelong recreational camper from tents to motorhomes.
In addition to his wife, Patsy, Sherman is survived by 3 children: Michael Book of Leola, PA, Jeffrey Book, husband of Wendy, of Reston, VA and Gail Herren, wife of Stephen, of Strasburg, PA; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
All are Welcome to join the family from 1:30-4 PM on Monday, February 23, 2015 in the Community Room at Luther Acres Retirement Community, 600 E. Main St, Lititz, PA 17543 with a Memorial Service at 2 PM with Rev. Newell Embley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sherman’s memory to the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
