Samuel J. Stauffer, 93
Samuel J. Stauffer, 93, of Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, and formerly of 1741 Santa Barbara Dr., Lancaster, died Monday, August 14, 2006 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Samuel and Anna Dorwart Stauffer. He is survived by his wife, Janet A. Schweers Stauffer, and they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on August 30th.
Mr. Stauffer was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall Academy, Lancaster Catholic High School, Franklin and Marshall College Class of 1937 where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, and attended the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Social Work.
Mr. Stauffer was a supervisor for the Dept. of Welfare in Lancaster, retiring in 1976 after 37 years of dedicated service. He served in the US Army during WWII as a Sergeant with the 355th Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.
Sam was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 134, American Legion Post 34 Life Member, Lancaster Leiderkranz, Couples Dance Club, Silver Threads, and St. John Neumann Seniors. His hobbies included photography, cooking, rose fancier, gardening, avid world traveler, antiques, and furniture refinishing and caning.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 11AM. Friends may be received at the funeral home from 10:30AM until the time of service.
