Ruth E. Groff, 83
Ruth E. Groff, 83, of Lancaster passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Mennonite Home. Born in Highville, she was the daughter of the late Chester B. and Luella (Frey) Brenner. She was married to J. Newlin “Newt” Groff for over 62 years. Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Manor High School where she graduated valedictorian. For eight years following high school she worked as a secretary at Millersville State Teachers College. She was last employed by Penn Manor School District for 29 years in the Food Service Dept.
She enjoyed attending family sporting events and was an avid Phillies fan. She was a former member of the Highville Ladies Auxilliary, Local Farm Women’s Chapter and the Loyal Workers of Manor Twp. She was a lifelong member of Green Hill United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was former Secretary of the Church Board. She spent over 40 summers at the Millersville Lions Club Pool with her children and grandchildren. Surviving Ruth are her children, R. Diane Lausman, of Lancaster, Karen L. Halstead, wife of Edward A. of Manheim, Jeffrey N. Groff, husband of Christine S. of Cambridge Springs, PA, and two granddaughters: Andrea M. Halstead and Alison M. Halstead. She is also survived by a brother, Harlan “Shorty” Brenner, husband of Arlene, of Highville. She was preceded in death by her siblings.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a Funeral Service on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11AM at Green Hill United Methodist Church, 5801 River Rd., Conestoga, PA 17516. The family will receive guests from 10 until 11AM at the church. Interment will take place in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
