Rose M. Work, 98

Rose M. Work, 98, of Evergreen Estates, Lancaster, died unexpectedly at the Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Formerly of Georgetown Road, Strasburg, she was married to Levi J. Work, Sr. for 59 years before his death in 1998.

Rose was born in Atglen to the late Dominic and Carmella Landido Madonna. She worked at Schick Electric as an assembler for 23 years. She was a member of Historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Women of the Moose Chapter 767 and Strasburg and New Holland Senior Citizens. Rose enjoyed doing embroidery and needlepoint and crocheting afghans for her family. She was an avid reader and she loved to travel, play Bingo and attend and host yard sales.

Surviving Rose are her daughter Geraldine W., wife of Ross H. Carnathan of Ronks; three sons, Levi J. Work, Jr. “Butch”, husband of Drema L. of New Providence, David R. Work, husband of Bonnie Lee of Ronks and Wayne E. Work, husband of Karen D. of Willow Street; eight grandchildren, Joan McCauley, Michael Carnathan, John A. Work, Brenda Diller, Amanda Work, Kyle Work, Wayne Work, Jr. and Tammy L. Work; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 step great great-grandson; and her brother Albert Madonna of Columbia, KY and sister Edith Marisuto of Coatesville. Rose was preceded in death by her siblings Nick Madonna, Prena Martin, Mary Work, Fred Madonna, John Madonna and two infant brothers.

The Mass will take place 10 AM Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Historic St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA, with Rev. Leo M. Goodman, III as Celebrant. A Viewing will be held 9-10 AM at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17603.
