Richard J. Row, 77
Richard J. Row, 77, of Lancaster, passed away, Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Born in Pennbrook, Pa., he was the son of the late Clair and Freda (Kise) Row. Richard was the husband of Kathryn (Reardon) (Resh) Row with whom he celebrated 6 years of marriage this past Nov 18th. Richard was married to Nancy Shaeffer for 49 years before her passing in 2003.
Richard retired from Allstate Insurance Co. as a Property Claims Manager after 31 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as an automotive supervisor, rank of Corporal. He attended Lititz Church of the Brethren and Our Savior Lutheran Church while wintering in Mesa, Arizona. Richard enjoyed wood working and provided wooden toys to several local hospitals children’s units every Christmas for many years. His handywork can also be seen in the many objects he made for UZRC where they were cottage residents. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing, and playing volleyball in the Senior Olympics and Huntsman’s Senior Games in Utah. Richard had a great sense of humor and kept everyone laughing with his jokes.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Kathryn are 2 children, Susan Keyes wife of Warren of Houston, Tx., and Richard J. Row Jr. husband of Alma of Hanover. 3 step children; Harry “Rick” Resh husband of Judy of Manheim, Susan Marie Bingeman wife of Michael of Lititz, and Linda Ann Raines of Lancaster. A twin brother, James C. Row husband of Carol of Lititz. And 13 grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by brother, Bob Row, and a sister, Judy Cassatt.
A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Lititz Church of the Brethren 300 West Orange St. Lititz PA 17543 at 1 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to United Zion Retirement Community “Caring Fund” 722 Furnace Hills Pike Lititz, Pa 17543.
