Penrose E. “Buck” Ryder, Jr., 85

Penrose E. “Buck” Ryder, Jr., 85, of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Masonic Village. Born in Steelton, PA, he was the son of the late Penrose E. Sr., and Ruth (Eberly) Ryder. Buck is survived by his wife Shirley A. (Hoover) Ryder.
Buck attended Steelton Centenary United Methodist Church. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Corporation and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and spending his summers on Cape Cod. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Steelton-Swatara Masonic Lodge #775 and the Adams Masonic Lodge in Wellfleet, MA where he enjoyed participating in the many lodge events. He was also a member of the VFW in Steelton, PA and the Linglestown American Legion.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Buck is survived by his daughter Laurie Collins, wife of Christopher of Lancaster; grandchildren Daniel Collins of Lancaster, and Jillian Collins of Philadelphia; brother Jack, husband of Eileen, of Harrisburg, two sisters Nancy Ryder of Middletown, Dolli Smith of Steelton; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:45AM on Monday, November 25, 2013, in the Sell Chapel of Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, with Rev. Dr. B. Michael Brossman officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:15AM until 10:45AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Village Hospice, at the address above, Attention to Gift Planning, with donations made out to Masonic Village Hospice Program, or to a charity of your choice.
