Patrick J. Lemay
Patrick J. Lemay passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Mennonite Home. He was born September 18, 1916 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, the son of the late August and Emily Lemay.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression and as a US Army sergeant in Europe during World War II, where his fluency in French was valued. He worked at Simmonds Saw and Steel in Fitchburg for 40 years before retiring to Lancaster in 1979, where he spent the next 20 years working in maintenance for the Hempfield School District.
Patrick always looked on the bright side of life and was a good friend, thoughtful and generous. He cultivated friends wherever he lived or worked and always enjoyed helping people. He enjoyed watching football, baseball, old movies, and history and wildlife programs. Patrick was an excellent checker player, and also enjoyed growing roses and spending time at Wells Beach, Maine.
He is predeceased by his wife, Doreen Lemay who died in 1993, and by brothers Arthur, Henry, and Raymond. He is survived by his sister Rita Romano and brother Leo Lemay, both of Fitchburg, and by his daughter Patricia and son-in-law Leonard Eiserer of Millersville.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, January 8, 2007 in the chapel of St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patrick’s name to Mennonite Home Communities Tree Of Life, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Attn. Development Dept., Lancaster, PA 17601.
