Mona Jacobson MacCarthy, 89
December 05, 2014
Mona Jacobson MacCarthy, of Wyomissing, died Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Phoebe Berks Health Care Center in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, after brief illness. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Carl Ivar and Agnes (Nordstrom) Jacobson. She was married in 1953 to the late Philip J. MacCarthy, who was a long-time attorney in Massachusetts. She moved to Wyomissing, PA in 1998 to be close to her daughter.
MacCarthy is survived by her three children, a son, Jack, husband of Gail, who resides in South Pasadena, California, two daughters, Kristina Jemison, wife of Michael, of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and Sara J. MacCarthy, wife of Paul Tiffin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and seven grandchildren, Michael, Scott, and Sara, Anders & Evan, Kate & Zoe.
MacCarthy attended North High School (formerly Classical High School) in Worcester, and Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Before her marriage, she was employed by the Moore-McCormack Shipping Line in Gothenburg, Sweden, and she also worked for the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
MacCarthy enjoyed spending time with family and friends over good food and drink, but she also loved to read and watch all types of sports — especially golf. She was a fantastic cook, a talented and prolific knitter, and an avid furniture refinisher. She spent years at the Craft Center, refinishing tables, chairs and desks.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. All arrangements are being handled by the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory of Lititz, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to support of Phoebe Berks. Contributions should be made payable to “Phoebe-Devitt Homes” and be mailed to: Phoebe-Devitt Homes, 1925 Turner Street, Allentown, PA 18104, or to St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation, P.O.
