Mary E. Sahd, 59

Mary E. Sahd, 59, of Millersville, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy.

She was the wife of James W. Sahd with whom she celebrated 37 years of marriage this past December 15th. Born in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold L. and Mildred E. Knezic Shaffer.

Mary had been an elementary school teacher, serving as a substitute teacher with the Penn Manor School District for 5 years, at St. Peter’s Catholic School in Elizabethtown for 1 year, and at many other districts in the area until 1993. After her retirement from teaching, she became a veterinary technician, working at the Willow Run Veterinary Hospital and the Landisville Animal Hospital.

She enjoyed decorating especially at Christmas time. She loved the outdoors, enjoying gardening, going to Muddy Run, and charter fishing in Lewes, Delaware. What she loved the most was spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary was a member of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons: Andrew M. married to Emily Sahd of Mountville, and Daniel J. married to Cara Sahd of Bainbridge, PA and her 4 grandchildren: Benjamin S. Sahd, Joshua S. Sahd, Erin M. Sahd, and Bethany G. Sahd. She is also survived by her sister Kathy married to Larry Spyker of Wrightsville, and her brothers: William J. married to Donna Shaffer of Dover, PA, Thomas A. married to Dot Shaffer of Mt. Wolf , Joseph H. Shaffer of Mt. Wolf, John F. married to Tammy Shaffer of East Prospect, PA and David P. married to Allison Shaffer of Mt. Wolf, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Shaffer, married to Marianne Shaffer.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 6-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8PM. Friends will again be received on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA from 10-11AM, with the Mass to follow at 11AM, the Rev. Christopher Sahd as Celebrant. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
