Marianne Sena, 68

June 10, 2016

Marianne Sena, 68, of Lititz, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 10, 2016 in Mechanicsburg. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Fransesco Benedict and Rosa Malfada (Diguadio) Cangelosi. Her husband of 25 years, John F. Sena, died in February of 2006.

A graduate of Mineola High School, Mineola, NY, Marianne attended Nassau Community College in Uniondale, NY. She was very community oriented, volunteering her time and helping in fundraising for the Lititz Public Library, Schreiber Pediatric Center, Mulberry Art Studios and the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.

She was an accomplished musician, playing the piano, cello, violin and flute. Marianne was known for being crazy, fun, having an obnoxious laugh and for helping people. She touched many lives. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and weekly playing Mexican Train and dining out with friends and neighbors. Marianne was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church.

Marianne is survived by her sister, Marguerite, wife of Gennaro Rizzo of Massapequa, NY, and their children Anthony and Alexandria Rizzo. Marianne was very involved in the lives of her nephew and niece. Marianne also leaves behind her four loving dogs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 3 pm at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave., Lititz, PA 17543, with The Rev. James O’Blaney, C.Ss.R. as Celebrant. A viewing be held from 1 to 3 pm at the church prior to Mass. Interment will be private. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be mailed to the Lancaster Humane League, 2195 Lincoln Hwy. Condolences to the Family

Dear Marguerite, I am so sorry for your loss of Marianne.  I could not figure out why my texts to set up a breakfast with her went undelivered. We went through Leadership Lancaster together and volunteered at Schreiber. When both phone lines said disconnected… I went to Google, then oh my god! Love and condolences to you and your family. I met Marianne at Cellospeak last year and played along side her at a fall cello workshop.  Such a beautiful, generous and friendly lady…a joy to be around.  It was a pleasure to know her, even for such short period of time.  My heartfelt condolences to her family and many friends.  She will be missed.

I just heard this morning of the passing of Marianne.  Altho’ I knew her less than a year, having met at Cellospeak camp last summer, she was the consumate hostess and an instant friend.  She stayed at my home last fall to attend a weekend cello workshop and just brough so much life and laughter to my house.  I was so looking forward to seeing her again this summer.
I offer my sincerist symapthies to her family and friends that knew her so much longer than myself.  I had but a glimpse of what she brought to the world and it was wonderful.
With a very heavy heart,

I taught Marianne cello at CelloSpeak and also at the Carlisle cello weekends.  A vibrant and committed learner, she was always kind and patient with others.  She would slip me a moisturizer as a gift each time!  I am stunned and so very saddened by her unexpected passing, I only wish I could have played at her service today.  She is in my heart.

Words can not express my sadness. Maianne was there for me when my husband died in 1997. She and John helped me and my son get through some hard times. I will always remember our trip to London, as we took my son for a real experience, seeing Big Ben, shopping at Harrods and other wonderful times. She was such a loving and giving person. My heart goes out to her family with the hope that they know just how much she meant to me and my family. She will be missed in this world.   With heartfelt sympathy, Diane Tremaine Beaver Dams, NY

Another beautiful soul taken much too soon. I am shocked and saddened to hear of Marianne’s sudden passing. I enjoyed the moments I spent with her serving on committees for the Manheim Township Public Library, planning crazy fundraisers, dipping chocolate strawberries, sharing drinks and laughs. She was so dedicated and helped me more than she every could have imagined. She was a sassy, funny lady with a contagious laugh and energy. I was just about to reach out and recruit her for a new fundraiser! My prayers and thoughts to her family and I hope her beloved dogs find warm and loving homes as I know how much they meant to her.

Marianne, you were loved. A very special lady and good friend. My life has been enriched by knowing you. I will miss our talks, especially about music, your smile, that infectious laugh. You were a happy soul who enjoyed life and inspired people to do the same. You were that unique piece that helped to make up the beauty of the tapestry of this life, and will be sorely missed.
My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to the family. May the prayers and out pouring of love from friends and loved ones strengthen you during this most difficult time.

I first met Marianne in early 2000. My dad had recently joined Allstate where John worked. At 14, coming from a childhood in Lancaster city, I had never met such classy people as Marianne and John. When my mom had a heart attack and went into a coma on a Sunday in April 2000, Marianne and John were one of the first to arrive and last to leave the hospital. In the aftermath of the unimaginable, Marianne drove me to and from therapy sessions. She and John would take me out for pizza on Fridays and to Barnes and Nobles afterwards to cultivate my interest in knowledge and keep me straight in regards to school.
After John died, Marianne and I maintained contact and she continued to be a mentor. In her New York defiant way, she instilled in me the ability to see opportunity and confront the challenges I faced head on. Her being so close to my own tragedy meant we could explore the existential questions in a down-to-earth way that bred comfort and understanding between friends that I will always cherish. And whether it was driving around in her Bug and listening to The Beatles, being introduced to the wonderful Zimmermans, exposing me to the Lancaster symphony and other arts, Marianne was and will always be a major figure in the successes of my life. She exuded a humanity and lucidity in life that I’ve rarely witnessed. Without a doubt, I am the person I am today, a better one, because of Marianne. Now, without her, I am certainly diminished. You will be missed.
With love to you and your family,
