Margaret H. Wiegand, 96
Margaret H. (Peg) Wiegand, 96, of Lancaster, formerly of 1708 Bridge Road, Lampeter, died at Conestoga View nursing home on Monday, October 29, 2007.
Born in Elverson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Minerva Bitner Brown. She attended schools in Little Britain Township and graduated from the Quarryville High School in 1928. Margaret was employed at the former Hamilton Watch Company, Darmstetter’s, RCA, and the Logan Dress Shop in Lancaster. She was the wife of the late Claude F. Wiegand, Sr., who died in 1988. They were married for 57 years.
Margaret was a member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church where she served many years as a member of the Mothers’ Club that prepared lunches for the students at St Anthony’s School. Margaret was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Her ancestors settled in Cecil County, MD, where some served in the American Revolution. Margaret served as the caregiver of various family members for many years. Her interests included gardening, birding, water color painting and miniature doll houses. She also enjoyed reading and listening to country music
Surviving are her four sons: Claude F. Jr., husband of Linda Menzi Wiegand, Myerstown; Robert S., husband of Helen Schaller Wiegand, Lancaster; Gerard G., husband of Rosemary Risse Wiegand, Lancaster; and David E., husband of Jan Hartle Wiegand, Drumore, PA; fifteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Mary Weller and Verna Burn, preceded her in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St Anthony’s Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.. Interment will be in St Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery following the service. There will be a public viewing on Friday November 2, 2007 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA and on Saturday at St. Anthony’s Church from 9:00-10:00 a.m. The Rosary will be recited on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. Contributions in Margaret’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
