Linda enjoyed many interests, foremost of which was antiques and flea markets. She was a stand holder at Green Dragon Farmers Market where she enjoyed the friendship of other stand holders and customers as well as the atmosphere of a traditional Lancaster County outdoor market. She cultivated many close friendships in Allentown and spent vacations with friends in Cape May, NJ and traveling to Florida and various spots along the East Coast. Linda also very much adored spending time with Brody and Addison, the children of her stepdaughter, Candace Leitgeb and partner, Mark Snyder.
In addition to her mother, Linda is survived by her son, Ryan James Leitgeb and stepdaughter, Candace Leitgeb, both of Allentown. She is also survived by her three siblings: Jan, Bruce and Eric Athey husband of Laura, all of Lancaster.

I supervised Linda for 14 years at the CLIU #21.  She was a true Social Worker, kind, compassionate, giving, supportive, and always friendly to the children and familys with whom she worked.  She was a friend and truly great person.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Dear Jean and family,
Bob and I were very impressed with the service for Linda yesterday. She was clearly such a wonderful person. We remember her so fondly as a child and are sorry not to have known her as an adult. As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, longevity is good, but it isn’t the most important thing. Helping people, having warm human relationships, making a difference, as Linda did: this is surely the most valuable way we can spend our time on earth. We “must endure our going forth even as our coming hence.” And people like Linda do so much more than endure: they set a fine example. Jean, I also want to also acknowledge your generosity in opening your home to Sarah Preston when she needed support. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time.––Lou (and Bob) Barnett

I had the pleasure of working with Linda. What a great person. She was kind and considerate to all. Linda helped so many people in her life. She never had a negative word for anyone and throughout all was positive. Heaven surely has another Angel.

Love and prayers for Happy Memories of Linda! Linda happened to be organizing help for one of my children when I was diagnosed with cancer. She lovingly and patiently talked with me and gave me hope…not to mention putting together an amazing team for my child. She was an acquaintance…but she made a memorable mark on my life and my family. She was a light in this world.

I worked with Linda at the IU for 14 years. She was more than a co-worker she was my friend. She was the most compassionate, selfless person, always more concerned about others than herself. She was always so positive and courageous. She fought long and hard in her battle against cancer; never complaining about her condition.
She loved her bargains and I know she really enjoyed the Green Dragon stand where she sold kids items. I visited her there several times and she was in her glory.
I will so miss her and her texts. She was such an inspiration to so many people. She lived the short life she had with gusto and thankfullness of all she had.
My deepest sympathies to her family for their loss. Linda loved her family and she always shared that with others.
Rest in peace my dear friend, Linda. You will be missed but you certainly left your mark on the hearts of many.

Dear Athey Family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you.  Hearing that Linda passed away was saddening.  She had been in my daily prayers and thoughts for a number of years.  Growing up in the same neighborhood, sharing a childhood, fond memories…another light is lite in HIS presence, as she rest in HIS peace.

My friendship with Lin has been a wonderful, cherished gift for more than 33 years. Her generosity, compassion and terrific sense of humor have carried me through the years while we grew together as friends, social workers and Moms. And there are few who could sniff out a bargin like she could! She was one of the finest social workers with whom I’ve ever had the privilege to work. My family will always treasure the memories our many vacations together at the shore, as we laughed, talked and watched the sunsets, all the while marveling at how are boys are growing. My prayers are with Ryan, Mrs. Athey and the entire Athey family. Lin, your battle was courageous, your spirit undaunted and you are my hero.  So many people are better for having known you. God’s Peace, my Friend… Love from Millie, Mike, Brendan & Connor
