Lee O. “Mike” Worthing, 89
Lee O. “Mike” Worthing, 89, died at Luther Acres on Sunday, August 9, 2009. Born in Johnstown, Pa, he was the son of the late Clyde A. and Kate (Robson) Worthing. He was married to Norma (Bowman) Worthing on Nov. 10, 1944 and had celebrated their 64th anniversary in November 2008.
He graduated from Saxton/ Liberty H.S. class of 1938, earned a B.A. from Ursinus College in 1943, Bachelor of Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1945, and Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1950.
He served Evangelical and Reformed churches in Alexandria; Denmark Manor/ Harrison City; and Phoenixville, PA. He retired after 30 years with American Book Co. (publishers of school textbooks) having been in sales and management in PA, NJ, Calif, Colorado, Ariz, and the state of Washington.
He worked with Boy Scouts of PA and Calif and was involved in the first Lancaster Boys Club on Pershing Ave. (1943-1944).
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Dr. Barbara Worthing Jones married to Larry Jones of CA; a son Michael Worthing, husband of Maxine of Ore, a grandson Avery Worthing Jones, husband of Jamie of Calif, a sister in law Gloria Shultz of Lititz, and two nieces and their families.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Wertman and Ruby Koch.
