LAWRENCE STEVENS RUNDLETT, 73
Written by George “Buzz” Rundlett and Melanie Rundlett
It is with deepest regret that I announce the passing of our friend and my beloved twin, Larry Rundlett. Larry passed on October 28, 2013, after a two year illness. He died, peacefully, in his home in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, with his wife Melanie by his side.
Larry was born in Rockland, ME. He spent his grade school years between Rockland and Standish, ME. After graduating from Portland High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a heavy-equipment driver for a transportation company in Germany. While in Germany, he boxed for Special Services Seventh Army as a welter-weight champion. After discharging from the Army, he received a degree in Education from the University of Maine-Orono and taught math at Kennebunk, ME High School.
Larry made a career change to study Navy Health Physics at the Portsmouth, NH Navy Shipyard where he became a training instructor for Radiological Protection on nuclear submarines. Larry then entered the world of commercial nuclear power and worked under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in power plants in NJ, KS, OH and NH.
Larry was the consummate life and sports enthusiast: he was a certified Captain of the Life Guards in Kennebunk, ME; a ski instructor; a white water rafting guide; a certified PADI diver; and a certified referee for the College Basketball Officials Association (CBOA). With his wife Melanie, they became avid tennis players and fans of the game along with kayaking the entire coast of ME.
Larry was predeceased by his half-sister Barbara Gerrish of Wells, ME, and his half-brother, David Blue, of Redding, CA.
He is survived by his spouse of 21 years, Melanie Appleby Rundlett, and three brothers: Half-brother John; Twin brother, George “Buzz” and wife Linda; and Ellsworth “Derry” Rundlett III and wife Marilyn.
He is also survived by his children: son Mark; daughter Sherri, grandson Nathan and great-grandson Tyler; daughter Sara, her husband Tim and granddaughter Ladybird; and son Christopher, his fiancée Sophia and granddaughter LuLu.
Larry’s extended family include his parent’s in law, Lloyd and Joyce Appleby; four brothers-in-law, Lloyd Jr, wife Pam; Stephen, wife Connie, nephew Ryan and his wife Kim, and niece Emily; Douglas and wife Maureen, nephews Brian and Jason; and Timothy and his wife Teresa, and nephews Timothy Jr. and Daniel.
As many family and friends have commented, “heaven has no idea what they are in store for!” Larry’s grin, his love of life, his generosity and his gift of making people smile and laugh will always live in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with the Rev. Mardean Moyer officiating. Larry’s family will receive friends from 1-2pm at the funeral home. To send online condolences, please visit SynderFuneralHome.com. (717-560-5100).

I’ve thought about Uncle Larry a lot since 2013.
Uncle Larry was always positive cheerful ,  and made me laugh a lot!
We had a lot of fun at his winter Chalet in Sugarloaf ,  Maine.
He loved sports !    Skiing ..handstands etc.
I saw Uncle Larry when he was referee for University of Maine Orono basketball championship .

Most I remember is that he was compassionate about family members and he always made me laugh about anything !
Sometimes to the point of hysteria!
It saddened me when I learned Uncle Larry had dementia.
We still had good times on holidays .
Uncle Larry lived life to the fullest .. he loved Melanie with all his heart and he loved his kids very very much!
He always told me..”if you see Sherri or Mark please give them my love!”

He loved where he lived in Pennsylvania.    The country ..the peace ..wildlife like deer!
I also miss my dad terribly Uncle Larry’s twin brother.
They were so close!
Chris Liz and I miss uncle Larry very much we remember all the good times!

God bless you Uncle Larry ! You are always in our 💕!!!!!
Love always,   Kathy Rundlett his niece

Remembering Larry,
Larry and Melanie bought my house Holly Lane Pa.in 2004 and we continued to communicate after the house sale. From the moment I met Larry I thought what blast and character he was. Very rare to meet someone that makes you glad you did meet.
I just learnt of his death April 26th,2016 and was floored. Wondered why I had not heard from him and so searched the web for obituaries.
Missed the jokes and sense of humour he had.
A great guy was lost to everyone he knew and I can imagine how sad his friends and family would be.
My comment…Wow what a guy! Wish there were more like him.
I will try to contact Melanie by e-mail as I moved back to Australia in 2010

For Derry, Buzz, and all your families,
I am sad to learn brother Larry has passed from your lives.  I did not know him or his wife, Melanie and their families but your words of tribute create a loving picture of a life well lived and happily shared.  I believe he will be missed very much.  With sympathy, Martha O’Hederman Burke

I am so sorry to learn of Larry’s passing.  I too was a colleague of Larry’s at Seabrook, and enjoyed his combination of optimism, inspiration, energy, and humor – a larger than life personality that touched many people, and left them better for having known him.  Warmest thoughts to all his family…Diane Charney

To the Rundlett family, I am so sorry to learn about the passing of Larry.  I was lucky to work with him for 10 years at Seabrook Station.  I’ll miss his great sense of humor, his articulate way of writing of poems,  his smile, and most of all his friendship.  He shared with me the way his met Melanie while traveling and the creative musical tape he prepared for her.  Larry was gifted in so many ways such as his sports abilitiies, his ability to lead others and create a fun atmosphere.  God bless Larry and Melanie.  Karen Endersbee

Larry
I am so sorry to see your passing.  I know the last few years have been tough on you but I always think of you as a gentleman, a close friend, a kindred spirit, a buddy, a great teacher, a superior motivator and someone who I always looked forward to hearing from.  Though we have been separated by distance for many years I always felt you near.  I cherish the 50 cent piece you gifted me with lady liberty on it dated the year of my birthday and think of the good times we had working together at Seabrook and those nights with the guys playing beer tennis.  I really did not try to aim for your head when I knocked you in the eye.
Rest your oars my friend and rest in piece
Joe Grillo
Melanie
Thank you for taking such good care of my friend.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Larry’s passing. He was well liked during his time in the Kennebunk area. Larry was a no-nonsence leader on Gooches Beach, KHS, and the local basketball courts. As a former Lifeguard Captain in Kennebunk he was a legend at the beach that we tried to live up to. However, I couldn’t start the beach day with a backflip like he did!
Sincerely,
David H. Shields Jr.
