Lawrence “Larry” Sills, 31

September 06, 2013

Lawrence “Larry” Sills, age 31, of Lancaster, passed peacefully from the loving arms of his family to the comforting arms of Jesus on September 6, 2013.

Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of Sandra Sills, Lancaster, with whom he resided and Robert Sills, Bayonne, New Jersey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Daniel Sills of Lancaster. He is survived by his maternal grandmother, Gina M. Hill of Mount Joy. Larry is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Horace S. and A. Louise Sills and maternal grandfather Thomas E. Hill, Sr.

Larry was a 2003 graduate of Warwick High School. He was involved with the Lancaster Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 throughout his school years. He made many friends with the students and staff and he especially enjoyed ceramics, history, world cultures and shop classes.

Larry’s passions included attending the United Disabilities Adult Enrichment day program for thirteen years, war history, Facebook, Jeopardy, Legos, movies, country music, discussing history and current events and sharing his gift of gab with his family and friends. Larry was a trivia buff and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. You would always see Larry with a smile on his face. Larry had a deep love for Jesus and was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

Larry was an honorary firefighter with the Rutherford Fire Department #1 in Harrisburg and a First Degree Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 14081, Harrisburg. He lived life to the fullest each and every day and he will be lovingly missed by everyone who knew him. It was his endearing nature and his sense of humor that made an impression on everyone who met him. He battled with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but he had a fighting spirit to not let this disease control his life.

The family would like to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses, aides, chaplains, therapists and staff at Adult Medicine Specialists, Roseville Pediatrics, Hershey Medical Center, Links 2 Care, Lehigh Valley Respiratory Care, Numotion, and Hospice and Community Care for their compassionate and supportive care of Larry over the years.

PLEASE DRESS COLORFULLY IN CELEBRATION OF LARRY’S LIFE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 10 AM with a viewing preceding the service from 9-10 AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. A viewing will be from 6- 8 PM on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will be at 12:15 PM in Resurrection Cemetery, 116 S. Oak Grove Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17112 following the funeral services.

If desired, the family kindly requests that memorials be sent in Larry’s memory to United Disabilities Services Adult Enrichment Program 1901 Olde Homestead Lane, P.O. Box 10485, Lancaster, PA 17605 or to the Make-A-Wish Philadelphia & Susquehanna Valley, 1054 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601

Sandy and Dan,
I was shocked and saddened to hear about Larry.  I know I’ve been gone from L2C for 5 yrs. but I have thought of you all often.  Larry was such an inspiration. He will be missed but his memory will live on. I just wanted to let you know that my granddaughter always plays with the cat that Larry made me during ceramics class.  I still treasure it and Sofie knows she has to be very careful with it.  She also knows who it came from.  My love and prayers to you both. Sandy you are also an inspiration to me.  You never failed Larry for one second. He always came before you. You are one amazing woman.
Love you,
Lisa Kilgore

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Sills,
Larry was one of my students at Warwick High School. I can truly say that he was one of the most memorable in my career. Larry’s wealth of knowledge always amazed his classmates, and he surely added to classroom learning. Putting the classroom, aside, Larry taught us so much about life. I feel so blessed to have been touched by Larry’s smiling face and will always wear his ceramic pin and keep the ceramic cup that he made for me. Please know that you are all in my prayers, as you say, “farewell”, to this wonderful guy! I pray that all of the fond memories sustain you at this time.
Fondly,
Dixie Heacock

Dear Friends… I am so proud to have known and cared for Larry since 1995.  His ultra positive attitude was an inspiration to all of the Team at Loeffler -Pitt Dental Associates. We all looked forward to seeing him at all of his visits.  Loved his pins and his Molar ceramic will remain on my desk as well as his painting hanging in the hall out side my operatories. Our prayers are extended to all of his family that we do not know.  Larry was certainly a very special member of our Family.  Peace and Rest to you All.  I am out of town but all my friends at St. John Neumann will take great care on Thursday.

Sandy, Dan, Aunt Gina, and cousins,
Larry will be missed so much — what a beautiful soul he was! And what wit!  You have your own personal angel in heaven looking over you now.  I didn’t know Larry was a country music fan! Wish I would have known and we could have talked about our mutual interest.
Sandy, you were such a great mom to Larry.  You were his angel.  I can only aspire to be the mom you are.
I am sad that Larry is gone, yet we should celebrate that he is with the Lord now and not confined to his chair and bed.
With prayers and love,

Joann, Luis and Tyler

Sandy and Dan,
Larry came into my life as a student but I think I learned more from him that one could ever imagine. His love of others and his ability to overcome adversity has shown me that no matter what life gives you, there is always something that you can do to make it better. Larry got a lot of his strength from his family and you can be proud that you blessed his life with love and respect. It was an honor to be able to be part of Larry’s life for I have another special angel looking out for me now.

Although I only had the pleasure of meeting Larry briefly I feel honored to have had the opportunity to talk with him. May you and your family take comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain and safe in the arms of Jesus!
Love and Prayers!

Sandy-
On behalf of all of Larry’s friends and associates at Adult Enrichment, we offer our love and prayers. Larry brought such joy and love of life in all of his endeavors. He lit up the room and was a true leader. His participation in the Christmas and Springtime Chorus productions was a highlight of those programs. Somehow, I can picture Larry becoming the new Alex Trebeck in heaven. They are in for some really fun times. May the Lord be with you and yours at this time.
Thank you Larry, for sharing your special gifts and talents with us.
