Julius M. Friedrich, 99

August 08, 2014

Julius M. Friedrich, age 99, entered into eternal rest with his Lord on Friday, August 8th at the Mennonite Home. He was the husband of his beloved late wife, Lorraine Koch Friedrich. He is survived by three sons and their families: Andrew (Marilyn) of Port Townsend, Washington, Robert (Rebecca) of Lancaster, and Thomas (Iris) of Guilderland, New York; six grandchildren “” Mark (Jude), Krista (Alexis), Philip (Dilshanie), Eric (Stacey), Anna and Elizabeth “” and one great-grandson, Walter. His love, attention and support have been valued by all members of the family throughout his many years.

Julius was born July 9, 1915 in Saint Charles, Missouri, the son of the Reverend Edward J. and Dorothy Friedrich. His brother Eugene preceded him in death. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937 and a Juris Doctorate in 1940, and remained always a loyal and active alumnus. After serving in the Army during World War II, he moved to Denver, Colorado and joined the law firm Bannister and Bannister. He was a partner in the firm, which was later known as Weller Friedrich, for fifty-three years, specializing in real estate, trust and estate law. His distinctions in law included being elected a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and serving as a member of the Board of Governors of the Colorado Bar Association.

Julius had a strong faith and was deeply committed to his church, Emmaus Lutheran in Denver. Bible study and discussions of theology were central to his life. He was an officer and served on numerous committees of Emmaus church, the Lutheran Layman’s League and the Lutheran Church “” Missouri Synod. He helped to establish the Lutheran Medical Center in Denver, provided legal advice and served on its Board of Directors and many of its committees. After moving to Lancaster in 2001 he became a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Julius collected southwestern art and had a great appreciation for art, music and photography. An avid reader on a wide range of topics, he would happily engage in discussion on a variety of subjects. Julius and Lorraine shared a love of the Rocky Mountains, living and traveling there over the sixty years they were in Colorado. They also enjoyed traveling several times to Europe and many times to the coast of Maine.

The family is grateful for the love and compassion shown by those who helped Julius in recent years, especially Leslie Gagliarducci and the wonderful people who cared for him at the Mennonite Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Home (www.mennonitehome.org), Water Street Ministries (www.wsm.org), or Lutheran World Relief (lwr.org).

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12 in the Mennonite Home Chapel, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Condolences to the Family

I am a lawyer who just read a federal appellate decision in which Mr. Friedrich won an incredible victory against the Government, on behalf of a family injured due to an Air Force crash, way back in 1952. I enjoyed reading about him. It’s nice to see that his excellent professional work in life continues to have an impact, so many years later.

Condolences to the Friedrich family.  May Jehovah the “God of Comfort” bring you comfort and peace at this difficult time (2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4).  Your family is in our prayers.

I got to know Julius & Lorraine because we sat near each other in church. It was clear they were a very close couple. When Julius wanted to donate some books to the Trinity Library, I expected the usual out-of-date books that the library gets from older members. Not so!!
Julius had MANY books to donate & they were the best of religion and theology! And even better, they were recent books! Seminary students, pastors, Bible study leaders and all of us have benefitted from his donations and will for a long time to come!
Julius lives on in Lancaster’s Trinity Library!   Kay Lingle

Please accept my condolences, it was a pleasure to know Mr Friedrich and to provide his care. I always enjoyed seeing him and talking with him. He was a very sweet and pleasant gentleman. He has now gone on to join his wife in heaven, so we can rejoice in his life that he shared with us here. I will miss seeing him, but I know he is in a better place. Please accept my thoughts and prayers for your loss.
