Julia Sullivan Shirk, 84

Julia Sullivan Shirk, 84, died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Thomas F. Shirk and daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Jeremiah J. Sullivan.
She graduated from the Dana Hall School, Wellesley, MA and received her B.A. Degree from Georgian Court University, Lakewood, NJ where she was President of the Student Body in her senior year.
Mrs. Shirk was active as a community volunteer. A member of the Junior League she served as President of the local league before becoming Regional Director of the Association of Junior Leagues International. More recently she was a Trustee of the James Buchanan Foundation for the Preservation of Wheatland, President of the Women’s Garden Club of Lancaster County, Pastoral Care volunteer for Lancaster Regional Medical Center. She was a past Board member of the Humane League of Lancaster County, Mental Health Assoc., Rockford Foundation and North Museum Associates.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Georganne, of New York City, and a son Michael, of Leola. Her brothers, Jeremiah J. Sullivan, Jr. and John William Sullivan preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12Noon on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St, Lancaster, PA. Friends will be received at the church on Monday one hour prior to the Mass. Interment in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Julia’s memory may be made to The Cloistered Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, 1834 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Julie was an exceptional person in every catagory I can think of. I will always remember our years volunteering at Lanc. Regional Hospital in the Pastoral Dept. God Blless You and all your family. Kevin Kaiser

Julie was a friend of my late mother Mary Lou Shenk. They worked together years ago at F & M College’s North Museum and remained friends thereafter. My sincerest condolences to Tom and the rest of Julie’s family. Peace, James K

We want to extend to Julia’s family our deepest sympathy upon her death and pray for all of you as you grieve. Unfortunately we were unable to attend her funeral because of a prior commitment but know we are praying that God will bring you comfort and strength in the days ahead. And knowing her as the wonderful lady she was, we know she is now enjoying eternal rest.
