Jonathan James Herr, 37

April 15, 2015

Jonathan James Herr, 37, of E. Petersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2015 due to complications of his vasculitis disease. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Robert J. Herr and the late Joanne (Fehl) Herr; step-son of Bonnie Herr. Jon was the loving husband of 11 years to Nicole (Rittenhouse) Herr.
Jon was a graduate of Manheim Township High School. He received an Associate’s Degree from the Consolidated School of Business. He was an Account Services Coordinator in the advertising department at Clipper Magazine. Jon was an avid Philadelphia Flyers fan and a huge fan of all types of music from the 1950’s to Punk Rock and singing Karaoke. He enjoyed antique toy collecting and took great pride in his impressive display. He loved fishing, target shooting, craft beer and loved being near the water especially lakes and the ocean. He also had an epic shot glass collection and was proud of his rifle collection. Jon also appeared on the Howard Stern Show in Las Vegas. Above all things, Jon’s favorite past time was spending time with his family and friends. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving in addition to Jon’s wife, Nicole, father, Robert, and his step-mother, Bonnie, is his mother-in-law, Deborah Rittenhouse, wife of Charles “Chuckie” Rittenhouse; siblings: Ryan, Greg and Shaun Faus; sister-in-law, Michelle Daniels, wife of Jason Daniels; two nieces: Elizabeth and Autumn; and his dog, Macky.
Jon was preceded in death by a sister, Heather Faus.
The family wishes to extend appreciation and gratitude to all medical staffs, especially to Dr. David Hellman from Johns Hopkins Medical Center and Dr. Lisa Allen from Lancaster General Hospital for their compassion and care of Jon.
A viewing will take place from 5-7 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2015 with a Funeral Service to follow at 7 PM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Johns Hopkins Vasculitis Center, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, 5200 Eastern Ave. Mason F. Lord Building, Center Tower, 3rd Floor, Baltimore, MD 21224.

Jon will be missed by many here at Clipper.  He was funny and sarcastic and often made me laugh. My thought and prayers go to Nicole and the family during this very difficult time.  My God grant you peace and comfort and the strength to endure.

Jon and I went to school together, lost touch, and then re-connected via working together at Clipper Magazine for several years. Jon was a good friend who was always the type to ask how you’re doing first. I was drawn to him as a friend, not only because of having a history together, but because — despite his health issues — he absolutely adored life. He got more out of his 37 years on this planet than I could ever dream of attaining. Cheers, big guy. Rest in peace.

I only knew Jonathan as a fellow employee at Clipper Magazine, from California. During my years at the company we spoke a number of times. He was always kind, patient and professional.
My deepest condolences to Nicole and the rest of Jon’s family.
May his memory be a blessing.

Nicole,  My heart breaks for you and your families.  I have had the privilege to get to know Jon from the first moment I interviewed him for his role at Clipper.  My strongest recollection is we spent half the interview talking sports and his love for the Flyers.  He told me numerous times that we just had to hire his wonderful wife because she would be an amazing addition to the Clipper family. When that happened, we did indeed add a great employee, but even better for me, someone who would become a  wonderful friend.   I’m so very sorry for your loss, and hope both your families at home as well as your family here at Clipper, can help you get through this.  My deepest sympathy, Nicole.

I worked with Jon first at Kohl’s, more than a decade ago and later on at Clipper.
Jon, I will remember always as having a love of life. Smiles and laughter were Jon.

He will be missed but never forgotten.
Condolences to Nicole and the Herr family.

I only got to meet Jon just recently. I met him thru Instagram and immediately hit it off. I get to meet him in person this past winter after trading some toys with him. I was glad to have met him in person and would’ve loved to take him to RetroCon in September. My condolences and prayers to his family.  Dean “Lamar the Revenger” Schaeffer

I went to school with Jon from 3rd grade through graduation. Though I haven’t seen him since, I remember him as a big, funny, big-hearted guy. The world is sadder for his passing. All my sympathy to Nicole and family.

To Jon’s family,
I am very sorry for your loss! I was a classmate of Jon’s in high school and graduated with him in 1996. I had many classes with Jon over the years and he was always cheerful, kind, and compassionate and I never saw him without a smile on his face. He always had something friendly to say and went out of his way to show caring to others. My family is praying for you during this difficult time and know that Jon blessed many people over the course of his lifetime. I was priviledged to have him as a classmate.
Blessings,

My deepest condolences to Nicole and Jon’s family.
Jon and I started at Clipper in the same department around the same time.
The one thing I’ll always admire about him and I think epitomizes his ‘live now‘ spirit is about one or two months into his tenure, he had the gall to pitch the co-founders of the magazine an idea of his.  And it just wasn’t an idea, it was well-thought out and well-researched. From what I do remember, I believe they ended up using some variation of this idea. I thought it took enormous self-confidence and fearlessness to do that.  Frankly, I was a little jealous of those attributes.
The other thing about Jon I’ll always remember is he had a wide variety of interests. He wasn’t someone who was easily categorized or put into box. One day we would bond over our nerdish love of the Simpsons, the next day he’d tell me how he was on the Howard Stern Show.  And his sense of humor was always on point.  The more you got to know him, the more you liked.
Cheers buddy,
Jeff Williams

I went to school with Jon, and am so sorry to hear of his passing. My favorite memory of him is from a middle school music class (maybe 7th grade?), and we were listening to songs from the Billy Joel album Storm Front. It’s just a small moment, but I remember his interest in the songs.

Nicole,
I only began working at Clipper last year, and I never actually had the pleasure of meeting or getting to know Jon, and I don’t believe that I have had the pleasure of meeting you either. I may have spoken with you on the phone before. I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry for your loss. My condolences go out to you and your family during this time. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I am a work colleague of Jon and Nicole and I did not know about this happening, so I came in this morning to a real shock.  Jon was always so pleasant to deal with and in past years, before Clipper expanded so much, everyone knew him and thought he was a great worker in his department.  I had not seen him as much recently, but had had various iChats with him.  I don’t know his wife well, but I feel so terrible for her.  I hope she knows she will be welcomed back by the colleagues who surround her as soon as she feels she can return.  I am thinking of them both today–  I very much appreciated reading about Jon’s “other” nonwork life, and it sounds like he lived life fully.  It is always so sad when things happen to young people–  I wish Nicole and all of Jon’s family strength and resilience.  This is a sad time for us all at Clipper, too.
Sincerely, Jeanne Pitz

Dear Nicole,
I wanted to express my heartfelt sympathy for the sad, sad loss of your beloved Jon. I didn’t get to work directly with Jon here at Clipper, but when I would see him, he was always smiling. I pray that God shelters you with comfort and peace in the very difficult days ahead, as you deal with the loss of your beloved husband.                                                                                     With caring and such sadness for you,                                                                                                                               Joyce Delany
