John G. Patounas, 77

John G. Patounas, 77, of Lancaster, PA, died surrounded by his four loving daughters and family on Monday, March 26, 2007 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late George and Marouka Vekios Patounas. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Despina Billis Patounas, who died in 1973.

John was a successful businessman in downtown Lancaster for 54 years. He owned and operated the Village Night club from 1953 to the present. The Village is one of the longest running family owned businesses in downtown Lancaster. He took great pride in his business and enjoyed spending time with his customers and employees.

A 1948 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force from 1950-52 as a radio technician during the Korean Conflict. John loved to travel, ride bike, and play tennis. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and a former member of the Lancaster Chapter of AHEPA. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and loved spending time with his family.

Surviving are his four daughters: Maria, wife of Thomas Georgallis of Lancaster; Helen, wife of Patrick Hazatones of Lancaster; Joanne, wife of Keith Martin of Littiz; and Gina, wife of Thomas Garrett of Lancaster; nine grandchildren: Yianni, husband of Gina Georgallis of Lancaster; Eftihia Georgallis of Philadelphia; Despina, wife of Michael Houck of Elizabethtown; Irini Hazatones of Lancaster; Demetra Hazatones, wife of Carl Hildebrandt of Vermont; Kenneth and Jon Martin of Lititz; Makella and Madeline Garrett of Lancaster; two great grandchildren: Eleni and Nicholas Houck of Elizabethtown; and a sister, Thalia, wife of James Moshos of Lancaster.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603. Friends will be received at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A second viewing will be held at Annunciation Church on Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
