PS. Imagine the reception he received from Uncle Larry when he walked through those beautiful white gates!

I was a neighbor of June and John’s many years ago and what a delightful gentleman.  I am so sorry to hear about his death and looked forward to seeing him each year at the Eighth Ward picnic.

Dear Aunt June, Jack, Collete, and Jere:

I received the sad news yesterday. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and the people he touched in his lifetime. He was such a jokester with his stories and practical jokes. Especially the hugs we received when we met. Love to you and your family. I will not be able to make the funeral but you will be in my prayers. Just think he will have a big welcome from his parents, sister, and don’t forget Uncle Larry when he goes through heaven’s door.

Love

Dear Mrs. Groft, Jack and Jere

I was so saddened to read of Mr. Groft’s passing. He was one of the most beloved men I had the pleasure of knowing. That both he and my late father each served in the Battle of the Bulge made him even more special. My fondest memories of him are when he would drive us boys to our school dances – and, of course, the neighborhood picnics. And, Jack… I am stunned how much his service photo looks exactly like you!!

My sympathies are with each of you and your families. I will never forget Mr. Groft.

Dear Aunt June and family,

My heart goes out to each of you and all those who knew and loved our Beloved (Uncle )Sonny! He was full of life, and good humor. He always made me smile and laugh when I spoke with him. He had a joke for everyone, and I was more than willing to hear them. I swear I can still hear him yipping like a dog. That was so funny! If there is anything I can do for any of you, please know that I’ll be there for you in a heartbeat.  May God and your memories comfort you through this difficult time.

With love and many blessings,

Kati Danz

Dear Aunt June and Family,

I am so sorry to here about Uncle Sonny. He will be missed soooooo much.I’ll miss his great big hugs when we were at a family function. We will never forget " My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean". If there is anything that we can do please call. Love, Louise

I’m glad to have met and had the chance to get to know Uncle Sonny. Uncle Sonny and Aunt June always made me feel welcome from the very beginning. When I felt new and out of place at a family function Sonny would brighten up the whole place and for that he will always have a special place in my heart. Maybe Uncle Sonny’s name should have been spelled with a U instead of an O because of how he would brighten up every where he went with life. Till we meet again my friend you will live on in our hearts. It is not good bye, but rather see you later.

Love,
Don

Dear June, Jack and Jere,

I am so sorry to read of John’s passing. Hearing his name from Lydia and from Mom, who both called to tell me the sad news, takes me back however, to many wonderful memories:

How about those many UGI picnics where John and all of you would be there – what I remember about him most were his smile and his laugh! Didn’t we have fun at those picnics where I remember the peanut scrambles and riding the ponies (which I could never do very well) and a lot of laughter!

We also saw much of each other since we lived so close, and Jere and I were friends growing up. I hold fond memories of our days at Burrowes, with the many activities we all involved ourselves in: the festivals where the men would flip the burgers, and the women sell the chicken corn soup – and the kids would play. And the music concerts with Mrs. Weaver…it was all good.

My thoughts are with you this day and beyond as you begin another chapter in your lives without John, but can hopefully hold dear all that was shared.

Very sincerely yours,

Cindi (Patterson) Robinson

dear, aunt june, jack, jere, and the whole gang,

it’s a sad time for all of us, uncle sonny, will be dearly missed. I still can’t believe he’s gone, what i would give to hear him bark like a dog again, or say a wise crack. he was my great uncle, technically, but was a great uncle literally. and he always will be , until we meet again… i’m so sorry for your loss, and every ones loss who knew and loved him.

god bless
