John Francis “Jack” Moran Sr., 73

November 23, 2014

John Francis Moran Sr., known fondly to his family and friends as “Jack “, 73, of Manheim, died Sunday November 23rd 2014 surrounded by his loving family at the Mount Joy Hospice Center after an 18 month courageous battle with cancer.

Jack and his wife Mary were previously residents on Clearbrook Rd in West Chester, PA from 1982-2004, where they raised their family. They were members of Sts. Peter and Paul church on Boot Road.

He was born August 25th 1941 in Boston, MA to Peter and Annie Moran, both who have preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother Peter Moran (Joan) of Canton, MA, his sisters Rose (Robert) Cavanaugh, of Bourne, MA, Mary Moran of Bourne, MA, Rita (Robert) Theriault of Reading, MA, and Kathleen (James) Lynch of Bourne, MA. He is preceded in death by his brother James (Mary) “Jimmy” Moran of Canton, MA.

Jack was raised in Milton, MA. He graduated from Milton High School in 1959. He attended Northeastern University from 1959-1964 where he played football and received a degree in Business Management. He proudly served as a member of the United States Army Reserves from 1965-1969, at which time he received an honorable discharge. He worked for the Roadway Corporation from 1964-1967 and the Mobil Oil Corporation from 1967-1996 at which time he retired at age 55.

Jack was married to his beautiful bride Mary Connolly Moran on September 18, 1965 in Hyannis, MA and enjoyed 49 years of marriage until the time of his passing. Jack was the beloved father of seven children: John F. Moran Jr, and wife Kelly of Downingtown, PA, Peter J. Moran and wife Courtney of Denver, PA, Sheila E. Moran of Denver, PA, Michael P. Moran and wife Theresa of Annville, PA, Ryan D. Moran and wife Annette of Elizabethtown, PA and Erin E. D’Imperio and husband David of Strasburg, PA. He was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia “Patty” E. Moran, who died in childbirth.

Family was always the most important thing to Jack and something he has instilled in his own children. He leaves a legacy that includes 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, by far his proudest accomplishment. He loved each and every one of them: Joshua, Brittany, Connor, Aiden, Ryan, Robert, Brandi, Falin, Chandler, Hope Grace, Peter Jr., Alexis, Caitlin, Michael Jr., Samantha, Jonathan, David, Meghan, Shane, Brady, Jayden, Tristan, Liam Grace, Colin Fitzpatrick, Kaiden and Ariah.

Jack was an avid golfer who never had a bad day on the golf course. It brought him great pleasure to spend time with his brothers, sisters, sons, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and anyone else who wanted to join him on the golf course. It wasn’t unusual for him to play 36 or even 48 holes of golf in a day. He was never short on unsolicited advice on how to fix “your swing”, even when he was duck-hooking it into the woods, and he never let his brothers “sandbag” on their handicaps.

Despite not living in the New England area for decades, Jack never lost his roots. He still carried a great passion for this two favorite sports teams, the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox, a passion he passed on to his children and even many of his grandchildren. It is a passion they proudly wear and one that holds many fond memories.

Goodbye for now Jack… “You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith…now enter into your reward.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Condolences to the Family

January 05, 2015

Mary, just received the news and send my condolences and prayers.  I feel blessed to have reunited with you and Jack at our 50th reunion, even if Jack did take the money on the golf course!  Seriously, he was always a special friend throughout high school and beyond.  Once again my prayers are with you, Jack and your beautiful family.  Lots of Love…Jeff Martin
