Joan Yvonne Denlinger Kauffman, 82

Joan Yvonne Denlinger Kauffman, 82, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday January 26, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born on November 19, 1932 in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Robert Denlinger and Marion Diehm. She spent her early years in Paradise, PA. After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1950, she met her husband, the late Zane Kauffman, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

For most of her adult life Mrs. Kauffman worked as a title examiner for both the Berks and Lancaster Title Insurance Companies. Later she worked as an independent contractor in the title business. She also served as a secretary to her husband and brother-in-law’s cattle firm, William McCoy & Co. Mrs. Kauffman and her husband lived in Manheim Township for most of their married life.

Joan had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed discussing politics, history and current events, vacationing in the sun, reading and listening to a wide variety of her favorite musicians. She was also an avid fan of horse racing, and a true lover of animals, especially cats. She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by her son David Earl Kauffman, 61, of Lancaster; a step-sister Iyla Westbrook of Lancaster; a half-sister Sandra Denlinger Sheaffer, of Chambersburg; grandsons: Tyler Kauffman and Hunter Kauffman, husband of Alyena Volland, both of Lancaster; great-grandchildren: Tatiana, Dominic, Patrick and Vincent Kauffman and James Gamble, all of Lancaster.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Kauffman was also preceded in death by her stepfather Robert Owen Smith, and stepmother Mary Denlinger.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7PM, on Monday, February 2, 2015, at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation one hour prior to the Memorial Service. Kindly omit flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Organization for Responsible Care of Animals, 401 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
