Jean R. Farneth, 87

Jean R. Farneth, 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011.  She was the loving wife of George Roy Farneth.  They recently celebrated their 64th anniversary.

Jean grew up on a farm in New Kensington, PA and worked as a secretary in Pittsburgh and Richmond IN before she and Roy moved to Lancaster, where they have lived for the past 50 years.  She filled her hours serving her family and friends.  Every day Jean could be found baking pies or cookies for someone in need.  She was a pianist and artist.  Friends will remember her handmade Christmas cards.  She also loved the outdoors and, even during her illness, would rake leaves and do yard work.  Jean enjoyed traveling and writing letters to friends.  She was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church.  Her faith was very important to her and she attended and served with joy.  She was a humble woman and lived her life believing in the salvation  that God provides through Jesus Christ.  She loved God and loved her neighbors as herself.

She left a big hole in the hearts of her husband and her 4 children: Gloria (David) McDowell of W. Chicago IL, Margaret (Thomas) Weik of Lancaster, Richard (Barbara) Farneth of Lititz, and Robert (Margo) Farneth of New Providence.

“Grandma” will be dearly missed by 11 grandchildren; Bethany, Joshua, James, Jeremy and Joy McDowell; Abby, Zachary and Geordann Weik; Becky Farneth, and Jacob and Rachel Farneth.  Jean was “Great Grandma” to: Sophia, Peter and Hope Fiorello; Christina and Makayla Norell; Grace Weik and Cole McDowell. Jean is also survived by a brother, Robert Repp.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Daugherty, and her brother, John Repp.

The family wants to thank friends at her church for their love and prayers as well as many dear neighbors for their  friendship.

Friends are invited to attend a celebration service at Long Memorial United Methodist Church, 2660 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 at 11AM on Saturday, December 10, 2011   with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:45AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be sent to the church at the above address. Dear Roy,

You and Jean were always supportive with Rollin and I during the many hospitalizations he had soon after our marriage. Then Jean quilted with my mother which was a meaningful contact. I want you to know that I appreciated both of you very much and pray that you may know God’s comfort in the days ahead.

Martha Pepper
