I got to know Jean at a laundrymat in Mt. Joy that we both used week after week. She was so cool and interesting and tough and I’m so glad to have known her. We had a lot of fun and I have great respect for her. I’m very sorry for your loss, she was one of a kind.

Jean was one of the first people I had contact with when I came to work at the prison in 1991.  She was gruff in her voice and slightly intimidating at first, but she turned out to be so sweet and funny.  I have a picture of the her with me and another officer, and i cherish it.  She told me a lot of prison stories and gave me a lot of memorable laughs. Years later well after her retirement, I moved down the street from her and her son.  I saw her a few years ago and asked her if she remembered me and she said yes.  My deepest condolences to the family, friends and people who were somehow a part of her life.  Heaven is going to have one feisty angel.

I worked at the jail with Jean for nearly 17 years. She made a ‘crib quilt’ for both of my sons when they were infants that we still have. I helped Jean move twice and still have a wooden desk she gave me when she moved into Skip’s house and no longer had room for it. Jean and I shared many stories and lots of laughs.  Prior to working at the jail … I was an 18 year old working construction at TMI and Jean was a bartender at the Conoy Inn. She refused to serve me because I was so baby faced at the time and the tavern owner ended up giving me my beers. She got pissed because he overrode her decision. I use to tease her about this story in later years. Jean is in my thoughts and prayers. GOD Bless her soul.
