I am a resident of Homestead Village and knew Jean as a frequent companion on our bus trips, as well as seeing her around the lobby and dining room.  I always enjoyed speaking with her and knew her to be a warm, gentle person.  Her smiling presence will be missed by all the residents at Homestead.  Please accept my sincere condolences in your loss.
She was a lovely lady.

Wilma, so sorry to read of your mother’s death, via the Courier.  Yes, I still subscribe!  Did not know you were in Knoxville.  For how long have you been there?  We frequent the town several times a year, as my husband, Clyde, still works for the University, and our youngest son is a Senior at UT.

Let me offer my sympathy on the death of your mom. Your mom and dad were good people and we enjoyed our relationship with them and all of you when you lived in Savannah and Pickwick. My wife, Marty, passed away last month and I know how difficult it is on me and my kids. Put your faith in God and all will be fine.

Barney,
I am so sorry to read in the Savannah Courier about the recent death of your mother.  I have many fond memories of the times I spent in your home and your mother’s dry wit.  I especially remember one time in high school your parents were out of town and we decided to have a party.  We carefully moved the rugs and furniture prior to the party and carefully replaced everything back in place after the event (or so we thought).  Upon returning home your mother noticed the dining room rug was about an inch closer to one wall and commented that we must have had a party.  She was too smart for us.  I know she will be missed.  Your family is in our prayers.

Barney, Bernice, and Wilma, I was saddened to read of your mother’s passing.  She and your father will always be part of my memories of the good people in my hometown and I feel blessed to have known them. I can still remember visiting in your home many times and how kind they were.  My warm wishes to you all…

Bernice, Wilma, and Barney,
I was very sorry to read of your mother’s passing in The Courier. I also have very fond memories of visiting in your home. She always made me feel welcomed. I think of those days and of you all every time I drive past your house. To me, it will always be The Stengle’s House. I appreciated how she was always willing to give me a ride home from band practice or events if I needed one. It’s the small everyday kindnesses that matter to me the most and she was a kind lady.
God Bless,
Janet Lard Cromwell, M.D.
