James W. Wentz Sr., 94

June 13, 2016

James W. Wentz Sr., 94, of Lancaster passed away at Pleasant View Retirement Home, Manheim on June 13, 2016. He was the husband of Sara Ann (Pinky) Wentz, to whom he had been married for 71 years.
James was born in New Holland, PA in 1922 to Dr. Paul R. and Clara K. Wentz. After high school, he attended Gettysburg College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served as a Navy Corpsman in the South Pacific during World War II.
After the war, James returned to Lancaster and married Sara Ann Miller in 1945. He entered the real estate business while his wife raised their two sons. After several years, he opened his own office under the name of James W. Wentz Real Estate where he specialized in home sales and appraising.
When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed riding horses with his wife and friends, attending horse shows, taking hikes, traveling to PA State Fairs with his brother Tom and long walks with his beloved dogs. He was also a very devoted grandfather to his two granddaughters, who have very fond memories of spending time with him and hearing all his wonderful stories.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Ann Wentz, two sons, James W. Wentz, Jr. wife Karen K. and David M. Wentz, wife Angela, both of Lancaster. James has two granddaughters, Jennifer W. Kintner, husband Wes of Lancaster and Dr. Christina A. Foutz, husband Andy of Minnesota; one great granddaughter, Sara Ann Foutz, a nephew Thomas Wentz III, New Holland and many other nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his brothers Thomas H. Wentz II, John Wentz, and his sister Helen Stumpf.
A private service for family will be held at Grace United Church of Christ on June 17, 2016, with the Reverend Katie Cort presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Hwy East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
