Irene Stabley
Irene Stabley in her eighty-first year lost a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer on Friday June 11, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County.
Irene was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Gertrude Kuszyuski. Irene loved the Chicago city life, and enjoyed going out bowling and dancing with friends. In 1949 Irene met Jere Stabley; the two were married on August 12, 1950 in Chicago. This August would have been Irene and Jere’s 60th wedding anniversary.
Soon after marrying, Irene and Jere relocated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to begin their life together. While raising a family of four, Irene worked as a secretary for the School District of Lancaster for 11 years.
Irene lived a wonderful life filled with family and friends. She began every day by completing the daily newspaper’s crossword puzzle. She remained active by joining a bowling league and golfing at Olde Hickory Village. Irene also took pleasure in spending time with friends, either by going out to lunch, playing cards and mahjong, or taking a day trip to Delaware Park or Hollywood Casino.
Irene also enjoyed traveling and taking family vacations. Every winter Irene and Jere would spend several weeks at The Villages in Florida to not only soak up the sun and warm weather, but also spend time with friends. Throughout the years Irene’s entire family took multiple summer vacations together to various destinations, such as Wildwood Crest, NJ and Deep Creek Lake, MD.
Irene is survived by her loving husband, three children: Nancy, wife of Dennis Balmer of Lititz, PA, Linda, wife of Timothy Landis of Lititz, PA, David, husband of Deborah Stabley of Bloomsburg, PA; six grandchildren and one great grandson.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grandview United Methodist Church, 888 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday June 16, 2010 at 7 PM. The family will greet family and friends before the service at 5:30 PM until time of service. Contributions may be made in Irene’s memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604. Arrangements by Charles F.
