Holly I. Girard, 73

June 15, 2016

Holly I. Girard, 73, of Lancaster, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, with her loving family by her side. Born in Chicago, Holly was the daughter of the late George N. and Anna B. (Hansen) Hjelkrem. She was the wife of Sam Girard, with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Holly became a Gold Star daughter when her father was killed in action during World War II. She was a woman of great faith and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was the owner of the Patchwork Doll House in Neffsville. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed sewing and crafts of all types. Holly enrolled in Lancaster Bible College later in life and proudly graduated with a BS degree in Bible. More than anything, Holly loved spending time with her family. Holly belonged to the Sons of Norway, the Silver Threads, and the Quilters Guild.
In addition to her husband, Sam, Holly is survived by her four children: Steven, Paul, Caryn, wife of Mike, and Ingrid, wife of Marcus; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three siblings: Ingrid, Fred, and Glen.
A Memorial Service for Holly will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Holly’s name may be made to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

I am so sorry to loose our friend who exercised with us at Universal Fitness Center.  We were a small group who went to the Silver Sneakers Class and became close through lots of groans and plenty of laughter.  We all will miss Holly’s friendly smile and contagious laugh.   Sam was always at her side and she will be greatly missed.  Love and Blessings to Sam and his family.
