Herman Griffiths Swords, 79

Herman Griffiths Swords, 79, of Lancaster, entered eternity on Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 at   Hamilton Arms Center of Lancaster. Herman was born in Lancaster and was the son of the late Herman Swords and Violet Neuhouser Peel and stepson of Paul Peel

Herman was a hard and dedicated worker all of his life. He began working as a young lad while living at Rocky Springs Park where his grandfather H.B.Griffiths was the park manager. His responsibilities included counting change from the penny arcade as well as being the “park brat” who tested and observed the rides and workers daily. He worked through his teen years while graduating from McCaskey High School, Bowman Technical School and took education courses at Millersville.

Through the years he worked for Hamilton Watch, RCA Corporation for 25 years, owned and operated Swords Tax Services and spent his later years as a full time employee of Woodstream Products of Lititz until retiring at the age of 78.

Herman was a member of the Lancaster Watch Makers Guild, enjoyed building RC Airplanes, Astronomy, bird watching and being with his family and wife of 47 years, Glee Swords who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Lancaster

He is survived by a daughter, Gale wife of Rev. Robert Romig Eveleth, MN, a son, Lieutenant John Swords US Army, husband of Delia (Veschi) of Lancaster, granddaughters: Jennifer wife of Daryl Martin, Sarah wife of Jason Martin; five great grandchildren: Christian, Maddisen, Abigail, Brianna and Leah , two brothers; Rev Paul Peel husband of Lois and Barry Peel. He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Swords.

Services will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, Pa on Saturday at 10:30AM. Friends may view at the church on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Herman’s memory to The American Missionary Fellowship- Adopt a Senior Citizen Program, PO Box 388, Eveleth, MN 55734. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel.
