Helen Sloden, 89

Helen Elizabeth Foernsler Sloden, 89, passed away and went to be with her Lord on Saturday July 28th. She had been residing at The Glen at Willow Valley and formerly been a resident of Willow Street.

Helen was the wife of the late Charles W. Sloden Sr. who passed away in 2006. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Louis F. and Lena C. Mitterer Foernsler.

Helen had been a homemaker, and had previously worked as a secretary and stenographer for the Hamilton Watch Co., New Holland Machine Co., and Armstrong Cork Co.

She was a member of the Willow Street United Church of Christ, where she had served as the Sunday School secretary in the past.

Helen was interested in genealogy, was a member of the Lancaster County Historical Society, and enjoyed visiting historical sites and places. She had been a member of the West Willow Senior Citizens Club, and enjoyed crocheting and reading. Her most important love was spending time with her beloved family.

She is survived by a son, Charles W. Jr., married to Judith Sloden of Lancaster; 3 daughters: Brenda J.  married to Glenn P. Book of Lancaster, Sandra L. Cauler of Mt Joy, and Anne E. Sloden of Lancaster; 5 granddaughters: Tracy R., married to Darren Lawson, Susan Book, Lori A. married to Keith Beattie, Jennifer L. married to Harold Bacon, and Melissa A. married to William McMurtrie; and  2 great grandsons, Benjamin Beattie and Wyatt C. Lawson. She is also survived by 2 nieces, Laura Greenawalt and Miriam Burkland. Helen was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Louise C. Hoppler, Anna Marie Foernsler, and Florence R. Jones; 3 brothers Louis H., Robert S. and Lloyd S. Foernsler; and 2 nieces, Anna M. Trego and Madeline Eckenrode.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 10-11AM at the Willow Street United Church of Christ, 2723 Willow street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584, with the funeral service to follow at 11AM. Interment in Willow Street UCC Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the Memorial Fund at Willow Street UCC. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, Lititz PA 560-5100.
