Helen J. Papadimitris, 83

Helen J. Papadimitris, 83, of Lancaster, PA, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.

Helen was born in Asfendiou on the island of Kos, Greece, and was the daughter of the late Theodore and Servasmia Hazitheodorou. She came to the United States in 1958 with her family. She was married to the late James Papadimitris, who died June 28, 1992.

Helen was a seamstress and tailor, and worked for 15 years for Mary Sachs, 5 years for the Three S Store, and 12 years for Gimbels Department Store. After she retired, she worked out of her home for several years as a seamstress and tailor.

She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, the Philoptochos Society and Pan Coan Society. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Cindy, wife of Nick Keares; Esther, wife of Martin Slaugh, both of Lancaster; and Maria J., wife of Jose M. Lippold of Mount Joy; a son, Tony J. Papadimitriou of Lancaster; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Katina Papagelis.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the viewing on Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation. Trisagion Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. A second viewing will be held at the church on Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. Please omit flowers.
