Hazel Wenger Herr Lehman, 88

September 17, 2016

Hazel Lehman, 88, of Willow Valley Retirement Community, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at The Glen at Willow Valley. She was born in Logan County, OH on February 6, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Mary Elizabeth (Shantz) Wenger.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Lehman (2002). They were happily married for 10 years and lived at Willow Valley together. Joseph was previously married to Lillian (Frey) Lehman and Hazel was previously married to Clarence N. Herr, of Strasburg.

She was a faithful servant to God and a long time member of Manor Brethren-in-Christ Church.

Hazel earned her Practical Nurse Degree in 1974. She worked at the Zerbe Sisters Retirement Community in Narvon and then as a private duty nurse. Hazel’s natural gift of caring for others throughout her life allowed her to be a well-loved caregiver for clients, family and friends.

She enjoyed crafting, sewing, especially sock monkeys, collecting Carolers and Dickens’ Christmas Villages. Hazel always encouraged her friends to stay active and always reached out to lend a helping hand. She started the craft wagon at The Glen at Willow Valley which helped residents with their sewing interests.

Hazel will always be remembered by her gift of care, not only to her husband, but to her many friends and residents at Willow Valley.

She is survived by her four stepsons; Roger Lehman (Brenda Sue Lehman 2014), of Washington Boro, Jeffrey Lehman, husband of Leslie, of Lancaster, Gregg Lehman, husband of Marilyn, of Millersville, and Todd Lehman, husband of Marian, of Mountville, 10 step grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth Stickrod, of Ennis, MT, and Mary Elizabeth Carpenter, of Bellefontaine, OH. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Donald Wenger, Eldon Wenger, Kenneth Wenger, William Wenger, and Marion Wenger.

A visitation gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 6PM-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA. A private graveside service will be held at the Creswell Cemetery, Conestoga, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Hazel’s memory to the National Parkinson Foundation 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131.

Wonderful memories of Aunt Hazel. Sock Monkey and a visit to her place of work when I can barely remember (3- 4 ish).
Also still remember a discussion about lice or bed bugs and was worried about them when sleeping at her house. (ha!ha!)
I also work in the medical field..   My prayers are with you also..  Josie Stickrod McAdams
