Harry R. “Buzz” Pittenger, Jr., 85

Harry R. “Buzz” Pittenger, Jr., 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Carlisle to the late Harry Sr. and Rae (Clough) Pittenger.

Buzz was preceded in death by his wife in 2002, Marie T. (Brill) Pittenger.

He was of the Catholic faith.

He retired as a machinist with AMP.

Buzz was a Veteran of WWII with the US Navy. He served aboard the USS Ringgold Ship in the Pacific Theater.

His memberships include the Millersville VFW Post #7294 and the Tin Can Sailors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with his family who knew him as “Pappy”.

Surviving are two sons, William R., husband of Verna, Michael P., both of Lancaster, two daughters, Kathleen M. Deibler, wife of Michael, of Mount Joy, and Kristine A. Frantz, wife of Brian, of Lancaster, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, two sisters, Winifred Williams, Shirley Lucas, three brothers, John, Richard, and Joseph. He was preceded in death by a brother, William, and sisters, Ethel Mae Brubaker, Audrey Mentzer, Ruby Lowry, and Marian Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church 440 St. Joseph St. Lancaster, PA 17603 with The Rev. Msgr Thomas Smith as Celebrant. A viewing will take place at the church from 10-11am. Interment will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County PO Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604 or online at www.hospiceoflancaster.org or Millersville VFW Post #7294 219 Walnut Hill Road Millersville, PA 17551.
