Harry L. Flick Sr., 86

Harry L. ‘Bud’ ‘Flicker’ Flick Sr., 86, of Lancaster died Friday evening at Hospice Essa Flory Center.

He worked at RCA as a Manager for 30 years until retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Cloister Post 429 American Legion, St. Anne Neumann Seniors, the Farnum Club and Life Member of Chapter 80 Disabled Veterans.

He was Past President of the Lancaster Chapter of American Softball Association of Umpires.

He played Semi Pro Football for the Lancaster Presidents.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in October, 1943.  He was a Sharpshooter with machine gun, pistol and M-1’s and Sergeant of heavy weapons.  He was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division, 22nd Regiment, 2nd Battalion, H Company, 3rd Squad.  He landed in Utah Beach and participated in Battle of the Bulge (Emsweiler, Bastogne). He was wounded in Bleialf, Germany and sent to a hospital in England.  He returned to the service, re-wounded crossing Prum River and sent to 25th General Hospital in Paris, France.  Once again, he returned to the service and was reassigned to the 326th Ordinance Company, in charge of German prisoner of war camp in Ludwigshafen near Mannheim, Germany.  He received various medals including:  the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster (February 1945), Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry badge, European Theater of Operations (ETO) with four campaign stars (Normandy, Bulge (North France), Central Europe (Rhineland), Ardennes, WWII Victory Medal and Service Lapel Button, Good Conduct Medal and then, returned home September 19, 1944.

Born in Smithville, PA he was the son of the late Harry and Miriam Glazer Flick.  He was married to Betty Rafferty Johnson Flick for 15 years.  His first wife, Gorgina M. Elliott Flick died in 1988.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons: Edward L. married to Sarah ‘Sally’ Flick; Ronald J. married to Karen Flick; Harry L., Jr. married to Eileen Flick; three step-sons; Tim Johnson; Jim married to Nancy Johnson; John married to Rose Johnson; one step-daughter; Terrie Finger; four grandchildren; Brett Stabley, Tim Flick, Hank Flick and Holly Breneman; nine step-grandchildren; Mike Johnson, Jill Donovan, Ryan Johnson, Jeff Johnson, John Finger, Kristin McCormick, Elizabeth Johnson, Emily Noll, Andrew Johnson; three great grandchildren; Andrew Flick, Alex and Julia Breneman; five step-great grandchildren; Katie and Erin Donovan, Michael Finger, Dylan Noll and Murphy McCormick; two brothers; Dick married to Mary Flick and Jack Flick and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Flick, sister, Patricia Flick and granddaughter, Laurie Flick.

Funeral services will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster on Wednesday at 11:00am.  A calling time will be held at the church from 10:00am until the time of service.  Interment in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to the Memorial Fund at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
