Grace McLellan, 92

June 20, 2015

Grace McLellan, 92, passed away on June 20, 2015, at St. Anne’s Retirement Community surrounded by her family.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, John McLellan.
She is survived by her 4 children: Cheryl McLellan Waldeck (Bob), Gail McLellan, John McLellan (Melinda), and Bryan McLellan (Ann). Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Lindsay Waldeck Myers (Don), Lissa Waldeck Dochat (Chris), Jamie Waldeck Burgess (Bunky), Michael Duffy (Lena), Erin Duffy Mercer (Clark), John McLellan IV (Kate), Amanda McLellan Reeves (Mike), Alex McLellan Thinnes (Connor), Bryan McLellan Jr., Patrick McLellan, and Katie McLellan; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Grace was born in Boston and spent the first 40 years of her life in Massachusetts where she and John brought their children up in Hingham. The next 48 years were spent in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where they saw their children go to college, get married, and have children of their own. It was during this time that Grace enrolled at Madonna College on a fellowship to study gerontology. She was actively involved with Meals on Wheels, the Foundation for Exceptional Children, several book clubs, and was President of the Pear Tree Quester Club. The last 5 years of Grace’s life were spent in Lancaster, PA where she and John had moved to be close to family members. In her last week she was constantly surrounded by family and had Hospice of Lancaster County helping with her care.
The family would like to thank Hospice as well as the staff on the 4th floor of Lancaster General Hospital and the staff of the skilled care wing at St. Anne’s. The level of care and love—not only to Grace but to her family—is unsurpassed!
Grace’s ashes have been comingled with John’s and will be buried at a private family ceremony.
