Gloria A. (Gibbons) Wright, 79

September 24, 2014

Gloria A. (Gibbons) Wright, 79, of Columbia, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Luther Acres in Lititz following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Harrisburg, she was the wife of the late John Frederick Wright, Jr., and the daughter of the late Earle and Lura (Heck) Gibbons.
A talented gardener, she was an expert in growing roses, zucchini, and tomatoes; her garden was named a wildlife preserve by the National Wildlife Federation. Gloria loved birds and enjoyed watching, collecting, and reading books about them.
She could always be heard singing a song. She was an active member of Hempfield United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the church senior group. Gloria also volunteered with Mother’s Morning Out and the nursery. She could be seen at the Welcome Desk where she greeted everyone with her warm smile.
Gloria was employed for a number of years as the head cook at Farmdale Elementary School until her retirement.
She is survived by three sons: Jon Wright and his wife Karen of Landisville, Keith Wright and his wife Debbi of Waxhaw, NC, and Dave Wright of Lititz; 5 grandchildren: Stephanie, Christopher, Bradley, Aaron, and Kayelei; and one great-grandson, Parker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Ave, Lancaster with Pastor Bruce Lefever officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Silver Spring Cemetery.
Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions in Gloria’s memory may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to Alzheimer’s Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Condolences to the Family

October 03, 2014

Dear Jon, Keith, David & family,
Please be asssured of our thoughts & prayers as you gather with friends & loved ones to honor your mother’s life. We were priviledged to know Gloria well enough to appreciate her love of life, love of family & most of all, her love for God. She thrieved on interaction with her church family & enjoyed many opportunities to serve. A highlight of life as a “senior” was her adventure trip (s) to Israel to see firsthand the places where Jesus walked that she read so often of in her Bible. Though she is missed already, we look forward to the day when we see Gloria whole again on Heaven’s side. Our prayer remains that all of her children/grandchildren will have the assurance of spending all eternity with her & the Savior she loved so much.
Sincerely,
Jim & Carole Rainsberger
