George R. York, 89

George R. York, 89, of Lititz, passed away Friday, January 6, 2017 at The Gardens at Lititz. Born in Long Island City, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Rudolph) York.

He served in the US Coast Guard Merchant Marines and the US Navy during World War II. He worked on portholes on the USS Missouri and USS Iowa. George worked for Bethlehem Steel for many years. He volunteered at Lancaster Regional Medical Center and was a member of American Legion Post 413, Pocono Pines.

George is survived by his son George A. York, husband of Patricia of Summit Hill, daughter Roseann, wife of Vincent Candiello of Lititz; 5 grandchildren: Katelyn Candiello, Daniel York, Sharon York, Catherine Candiello High and Robert Candiello; and his sister Dotti Ross of New York. Four siblings, Ernest York, Kay Corrigan, Betty Drake and Iris Shields, preceded George in death.

A viewing will take place 2 to 6 PM, with a Christian Prayer Services led Rev. Michael Culkin at 2:30 PM, on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, Pa 17011.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Love and prayers to your family. George was always such a kind man and a good neighbor. I will always think of him when I look at the stained glass that he made for my husband. I always enjoyed seeing him and talking to him up here in the Poconos. R.I.P George

I am very sorry for the loss of your father..grandfather..friend. I knew George from LRMC and very much enjoyed our conversations. He spoke frequently of Rosanne and  Kaitlyn very proud of his family and their accomplishments. George will greatly be missed. I pray that you find peace and know that he is at peace. I will miss his great smile and happy go lucky personality.
