Then he served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. A Veteran of WW II, he served as Corporal in the U.S. Army with the 37 70th Trucking Company in the South Pacific campaign.  He received 2 Bronze medals.

After returning from the war, he then managed St. Joseph’s Legion Team from 1946 to 1952.

In 1948, he coached a team “The Catholic War Vets” who went on to win the first league championship in fast pitch.  In 1949, the St. Joe Legion baseball team won the City championship.  He played for St. Joe Catholic Club softball team in 1948 – 1951.  He played with the Beer Barons, the Police team and Graybill’s team.  He was in the Red Rose League until 1969.  He was also on the Millersville Church slow pitch league. He ended up managing the St. Joe’s team, which was then changed to Dantros, for 26 years and he retired in 2008.

He took over his father’s milk business and was the owner of Rocky Springs Dairy for 30 years.  He was always happy, positive and whistled while he worked.  He loved to play the harmonica, sing, and dance.  He was a member of the Liederkranz German Club and sang with the Hobby Chor.  He loved to tend to his garden, ride his 1937 Schwinn bicycle around the neighborhood, and loved the outdoors!

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was an usher for many years.    He was an alumnus of Lancaster Catholic High School, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 867, and the St. Joe Club. He was a devout follower of Christ and prayed often.

Emil loved to attend the football and basketball games at Lancaster Catholic High School.  He loved to listen to polka music and go out dancing with his wife any chance he could get.  He was always outside, had a constant tan, enjoyed his garden to the fullest, and could not stop playing softball he loved it so much!

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of great loss.  Take refuge in the fact that your husband/dad/grandfather is with Our Lord and that his memory is with you forever.  That memory will influence you forever.  I know because I recently lost my dad and his positive influence is constantly with me.  Many blessings to your family especially in  the next few days, weeks, months.

Emil seemed to me to be very genuine, very happy, and both considerate and honest.  …it showed!

Dear Ginny and family
What a wonderful man he was!  And what a world it would be if we all lived as he did.  He always put his faith in Christ first in his life and I know his reward will be great.  Our sincere condolences for your loss.  We will have a Mass said for his blessed soul and for your consolation.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Ginny and your family. Emil was always smiling every time I saw him and he will be missed by many but he lived a long and good life filled with many memories. I know my mother, who passed away in September, was at the gates of heaven to greet him. GOD bless you during this time of grief.

Aunt Pauline and family are all very sorry for your loss.  You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.  Emil’s legacy lives on in all of us.

I AM A FRIEND OF LISA’S, WE BOTH WORKED AT NORITAKE TOGETHER FOR A WHILE. I ENJOYED HEARING ABOUT HER FAMILY PARTIES WITH ALL HER SISTERS AND BROTHERS AND MOM AND DAD TOO. IT IS WONDERFUL TO HAVE A BIG FAMILY THERE ARE A LOT OF LOVING SHOULDERS TO LEAN OR CRY ON. I ONLY HAD ONE SISTER AND SHE DIED 12-28-72 AND SHE WAS ONLY 22YRS. THE NEXT YEAR MY GRANDMOTHER DIED 12-27-73 SHE WAS 87YRS. IT IS VERY HARD TO LOSE ANY FAMILY MEMBER AROUND THE HOLIDAYS. BUT IT IS GOOD TO REMEMBER OUR GOOD TIMES WITH THEM AND THE THINGS THEY ENJOYED THE MOST. GOD BE WITH YOU ALL. THANK YOU FOR STOPPING IN LISA, IT WAS GOOD TO SEE AGAIN.  MY SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO THE WHOLE STROSSER FAMILY.
