Elizabeth L. “Betty” “Lisl” (Lermer) Myers, 90
October 08, 2016
Elizabeth L. “Betty” “Lisl” (Lermer) Myers, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Homestead Village, where she resided for the past 2 years.
Born in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hans and Frances (Kropf) Lermer. She came to the United States through Ellis Island as a 2-year old.
Betty grew up on Cabbage Hill, attended St. Joseph Catholic School, and graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
All through her early years, Betty worked in her family business, Lermer’s Bier Stube, a local café, doing anything her mom, Fanny, told her to do. She was co-owner of Obie Miller’s Steak House, and then worked for Armstrong. When her kids got older, she owned the Millersville Laundromat.
She married Warren M. Myers in 1954 and became a full-time housewife and loving mother to her children, Lisa M. Cooper, Warren M. Myers, Jr (Cynthia), and “baby boy” John B. Myers (Deniese). She is also survived by her grandson, Dr. Robert B. Cooper, II (Fiancé Lisa Venezia), and great grandchildren Logan, Tony, and Hannah. She is also the “Step” grandmother to 7. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Gervase G. Schmidt and granddaughter Stephanie Skiles Barnette.
Betty loved to travel at any given opportunity. She took all her kids to Europe in 2000, and went everywhere she could from Florida to Asia, Alaska, and Ecuador. She was a sun worshipper, lying out in the sun and enjoying the outdoors. She was the busiest “retired” person you’d ever meet. She lived life to the fullest.
Betty played bingo every Monday night at the Knights of Columbus, swam at the “Y” 3 times a week, and loved spending quality time with her kids and grandkids. She loved her cats and enjoyed gardening, gambling, reading, and staying busy.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Bachman Center on the Homestead Village Campus. Friends and family are invited to join the celebration of her wonderful life.
Kindly omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, who made her last days pain free, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604, or to Homestead Village (whose great nurses took exceptional care of her) Endowment Fund, 1800 Village Circle, Lancaster, PA 17603.
Everyone should be as lucky as Betty!

Dear Family members and friends:
Betty will be fondly remembered. She spent many, many, faithful hours preparing estate auctions for my father, Claude F. Smith.
She could always be counted on to do a professional job with a pleasant and positive demeanor.
With deepest sympathies to all.
Ron and Dee Smith
