Dr. Frank Lyon Rommel, 81
Dr. Frank Lyon Rommel, 81, of Palm Harbor FL, formerly of McKeesport, died Friday morning April 28, 2006 at Moravian Manor, Lititz, PA.
Born on May 5, 1925 in Glassport, PA, he was the son of the late Frank D. and Harriet (Lyon) Rommel.
A graduate of Glassport High School, St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA, he received his M.D. degree from the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University, Chicago.
Dr. Rommel was a Board Certified Physiatrist, and started the Physical Medicine Rehabilitation Department at the McKeesport Hospital. In addition he practiced at the Harmarville Rehabilitation Center and several hospitals in the Pittsburgh area from 1961 to 1988.
He served in World War II as a cryptographer with the Army Air Corp in the Azores. He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Palm Harbor, FL.
Frank was married 51 years to Barbara (Bonde) Rommel who survives him.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 5 children, Dr. F. Michael, husband of Catherine (Thomas) Rommel, M.D. of Lancaster, PA, Elizabeth A., wife of James J. Kopenhaver, Hanover, PA, John C. husband of Carla (Lange) Rommel, Naperville, ILL, James D. husband of Paula (Kreuzberg) Rommel, Mt. Airy, MD, H. Susanne, wife of Jeffrey R. Huston, New Market, MD, 10 grandchildren and two sisters, H. Patricia, wife of E.G. “Bud” Shuster, of Evrett, PA, and Mary T. Pforsich of Midlothian, VA.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. James Catholic Church, Lititz, PA on May 1, 2006. Interment will be in Evrett, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Rommel’s memory to the Good Samaritan Mission, 14920 Balm-Wimauma Rd., Wimauma, FL 33598.

My dear US host family of 1972,
I was deeply saddened when learning about Dad Dr Frank L Rommel’s passing till today.
On the 8th anniversary of his heavenly travel and jouney, may I recall and remember his greatness as mandkind, a doctor, a kind man who extended your generosity for peace creation through your efforts in adopting intercultural understandings.
My heart felt condolences to my US hostfamily’s Mom, brothers and sisters, and your families!!!
