Dorothy (Royack) Purcell

Dorothy (Royack) Purcell of Millersville, PA passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Saint Anne’s Retirement Community. She was born on June 10, 1933 in Shamokin to the late Stephen and Anna (Miller) Royack. For over sixty-two years, Dorothy was married to Thomas J. Purcell Jr. who predeceased her on September 6, 2011.
Dorothy started her working career at Shroyers Dress Manufacturers and the Arrow Shirt Factory in Shamokin. After moving to Lancaster she worked at RCA and the National Scanning Company. Dorothy’s final career was child day care through which she was able to share her loving, caring and wonderful nature with children who became part of her extended family.
Dorothy has been a member of St. Philip the Apostle parish since it’s inception. She enjoyed her fellowship with friends in the Red Hat Society, St. Philip’s Guys and Dolls Club, Centerville AARP and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign War, Post #7294.
Surviving Dorothy, are her three sons and their spouses, Thomas J. III, and Janet (Finney), Anthony J. Sr and Deborah (Wolfe) and Jeffery and Kate FitzPatrick; her grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth and Brad Confer, Sarah and Keith Brock, Thomas J. (T.J.) IV and Marlo Purcell, Mary Purcell Greene and Sean Greene, and Anthony J. (Tony) Jr and Daniel Espejel and her great grandchildren Tyler and Liam Confer, Audrey and Grace Brock, Thomas J. (Quinn) Purcell V, and Margaret Greene. Additionally, Dorothy is survived by sister Bernice Zack, sisters-in-law Arlene Royack, Betty Purcell and Antonia (Toni) Walters and brother-in-law Jan Walters. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by sister Catherine Bouchard, brother Joseph Royack and sister Judy Royack.
Mass of Christian Burial will be from St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11 AM with Father Lawrence Sherdel as Celebrant. Interment will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 9:30AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Friends may view at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St, Millersville, PA 17551 on Sunday afternoon November 20, 2016 between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6PM Sunday at the funeral home. There also will be a viewing at the church on Monday morning between 10 and 11 AM.
