Dorothy L. Griffith, 79

Dorothy L. Griffith, 79, of Lititz, PA, formerly of Broomall, PA, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at Lancaster General Hospital. Dorothy was born in Plains, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Leon and Mary Orischak Lock.

Dorothy enjoyed 35 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart, the late Dale C. Griffith who passed away in 1984. They met when she was the Head Majorette and he was the Drum Major of their rival high school bands.

Dorothy was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and an adoring grandmother. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She loved to travel, enjoyed reading and shopping, and was an excellent cook and baker. She had a flair for interior design. Dorothy especially loved spending time at the Jersey shore. You could often find Ocean City sand in her shoes. Dorothy’s adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for trying new things led her to experience a full and exciting life.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Patricia, married to Michael Massimo, of Lititz, PA; her son David, of Tannersville, PA; and her daughter, Pamela, married to Randy Lloyd, of Dallastown, PA. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Katie, Laura, Joshua, Steven, Hope, and Kelly; and one great-grandchild: Taylor. Surviving in addition are two brothers: Leon Lock, married to Martha, of Bear Creek, PA, and Jerry Lock and his companion Ann Marie, of Plains, PA.

Dorothy was a member of the Neighbors and Newcomers Club of Lancaster. She volunteered at the Fulton Opera House. Dorothy played in a monthly Bridge Club for many years. She was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church.

Contributions in Dorothy’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society,
314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.

Dear Patti,
I am so sorry to learn of the death of your mother. My mother died forty years ago of cancer at the age of fifty. It still seems like yesterday. Your mother will be with you in spirit and in your heart forever.  My deepest sympathy to you all.
Sincerely
Gary Hawkins

I am deeply sorry to hear of Dottie’s death. I was in the Newcomers & Neighbor’s Club with her and enjoyed our conversations very much when we saw each other at meetings. Dottie was always enjoyable to be around and I will miss her very much. You will all be in my prayers. God Bless you all.
With Sympathy,
Menica Botta

Patti, David, and Pam,
I was sorry to hear last night of your mom’s passing but very much appreciated the chance to speak with you, Patti.  Since my dad died in April 2006, my mom has been a lost soul.  It became clear that they worked wonderfully as a couple but that her ability to physically and mentally manage alone was quite impaired.  When she moved into an assisted living facility in Dartmouth, MA where I now live, she relied on phone calls to her old and trusted friends like your mom.  I am sure they shared memories of better times when they were part of a foursome.  Or times when my mom sought refuge and kindness from you all while my sister was hospitalized.  I will share the news of your loss with her when I see her later this week.  I am sure she will share your loss.
On a happier note, I was pleased to here that you all are doing well with families and lives of your own.  Although I cannot imagine when it might occur, I would love to think of meeting again sometime.  Until then,
best wishes to you all,
Russ Munson
