He was then hired by Allis Chalmers in York with positions in Production Control, Warehouse Supervisor, and Purchasing Agent. In 1977, he joined Woodstream Corp. in Lititz as the Director of Purchasing for 12 years. Oh Carol!  How I wish I would have known of this sooner!  We are devastated to hear and even more saddened that we weren’t able to come and pay tribute to an amazing man and the dearest friend my father had.  So crazy to pull out the photo of you and Don with me and Dad at the golf tournament for My daughter’s school and know that they have both passed so close together.  They are probably kicking ass and taking names on the course up there!  My brother and I are thinking of you.  Thanks for being such great friends to my Dad, and a fond memory of mine as well…

A Tribute to a Friend – Don Nicklaus
Donnie was the Emcee of Life! Whether you saw him at the pharmacy, a family reunion, a private party, a wedding, or hosting the EARS benefit, he was always a shining light of humanity. Donnie was what’s right in this world, and never let any of us forget it. Always the big brother you wanted, and you could forever count on him to lend a hand when needed.
You do not meet someone like him everyday, he was very special to everyone that he came in contact with.
When you look up class act in the dictionary, there he was. We never saw him in a poor mood. He always had a smile on his face, and he would put a smile on yours before he would leave you.
Whatever he did, he did it with passion. He was infectious to be around, and you couldn’t have a bad time when he was there. He IS the beacon of light that most of us truly look for in our lives.

I am blessed to have known him, and proud to have called him my friend!
God bless you Donnie, because you have already blessed us.

Dear Carol,
We were so sadden to hear of Don’s death. It was a pleasure working with Don during his time at Woodstream.  Also, our golf trips to Myrtle Beach were so enjoyable plus our golf times together locally.
Don was an outstanding man in all areas of his life.  He will be missed. What a tribute to him last evening with the large number of people attending his viewing.
Carol,  Our sympathy and prayers of comfort to you.
With Love,

Our deepest sympathy for your loss! Don was a special person and a great friend, with whom I will cheerish so many special memories. The one that you’ll remember is watching “Dancing with the Stars” before our golf adventure.

Not, How Did He Die, But How Did He Live?

Not how did he die, but how did he live?

Not what did he gain, but what did he give?

These are the units to measure the worth

Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?

But had he befriended those really in need?

Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,

To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?

Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,

But how many were sorry when he passed away.

The memory of a good person is a blessing.

 Proverb 10:7
Our deepest condolences go out to you and your family.
Sincerely,
The office of Justin L. Cappiello, M.D.

Carol,

My deepest sympathies to you and your family in hearing of Don’s passing.  Despite having worked with Don as part of Ivaco’s Inside Sales for the past several years it was only in the months surrounding his retirement that I started to get to see and understand why he was so well liked and loved.  A truly unique and wonderful individual who I feel honored to have known.  May the Lord watch over and comfort you.

I was one of Don’s customers for most if not all of his 25 years at Ivaco.  He was the consummate colleague, professional, friend and mentor. I am heartsick that he did not get to enjoy more of his retirement years with friends and family – he certainly earned the right to do so.  I will always remember his positive disposition and unique hand shake.  He was a genuine, good guy.  To honor his many years serving the steel industry, the ending of an old blacksmith’s epitaph is “My coal is spent my iron is gone, my nails are drove my work is done.”   Well done Don! God bless you and your family.    John Schleicher

My heartfelt condolences Carol, family and close friends for your immense loss. I was extremely fortunate to have known Don professionally at IRM, personally and to have called him ‘my friend’. His continuous optimism, his enormous heart to help others and let’s not forget his ‘silly’ sense of humor, made him the gentle and genuine man we all grew to love & cherish.

The memories and his shared knowledge will remain with me forever.  Good-bye ‘my friend’.  RIP and God Bless.

Carol and Family,
I am praying for God to give all of you the strength you need during this time.  Don was a classmate of mine and to this day, I see his big smile.  I don’t think I ever saw him without one.  My other memory is that he was a gentleman and always made other people feel special.
 May God bless you all.

Dear Carol,
It was with great sadness that I read about Don’s passing.  I will never forget his funny demeanor.  I don’t think I ever saw him not laughing.  Unfortunately, I will be away and unable to attend the services, but I want you to know you in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

My most heartfelt sympathy Carol.
I had the priviledge of knowing and befriending Don through our work and travel together and I am certainly better for it, as are all who knew and loved him. He was a role model, a teacher and an inspiration to me both personally and professionally. Don brought compassion and joy with him wherever he went and the world was trully a better place because of him. His legacy will live on through time. God bless you now as he did all of us with Don’s life.

Dear Carol,
I am at a loss for adequate words to express my sadness on Don’s sudden passing.  I had the blessed opportunity of working with this most remarkable man for many years. For those of us that had the privilege of calling him ‘friend’ outside of work, I was always humbled by his kindness and compassion to everyone around him.  I know heaven just received one of the most special angels. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers- My heartfelt condolences….Michel Goulet

My deepest condolences to the Nicklaus family. Dear Don,
For those of us you called your friends you will be sadly missed.  I did not know you for as long as some others of your friends here at IRM but there is a bright spot in my life for having known you.  Hopefully, during your passage among us, your way of being kind to your friends and neighbours will have rubbed off on some of us and we will act accordingly.  For your next act of kindness, please help guide God’s hand in taking care of yoyr dear Carol.  Au revoir my friend!
Dear Carol –  Our deepest condolences.  Our prayers are with you and your family in this most difficult of times.

Paul and family:  I was saddened to read that Donnie had passed away.  What a wonderful person he was in all aspects of his life. We got to know eachother when he was in Production Control and I was in Purchasing at Schick Electric in the ’70’s.  Our departments had our differences when a PC coordinator requistioned parts for an unrealistic delivery date, or asked for a quantity that we had no prices for.  But Donnie always stood out as an easygoing person who was willing to compromise.  I remember him for his constant and contagious smile and joking.  The wold is a little bit sadder today without your wonderful brother.                                Ed Lull – Shippensburg 1972

Dearest Carol,
Donnie always told me, “Amos, enjoy every day and roll with the punches.” I know he would want us to laugh and remember him with joy. Iva road gave me so many fun and special times I will never forget. Eric and I will miss him terribly. So, now I’m going to put on my brand new pair of rollerskates, take them for a spin, and have a big old laugh reviewing my sweet memories.
I love you

Dear Carol,
The news of Donnie’s passing is so totally unexpected that we are shocked and saddened.  Your loss must feel so overwhelming and we wish there was something we could do to ease the pain you are feeling.  Our memories of Donnie are so vivid: he was such a vibrant companion, a professional in his career, and a loving spouse.  Though we are far away, our thoughts are with you and we hope to see you in the fall.  Howard & Jane Mayo

Don and I were partners in a recent golf tournament. It was one of the many rewarding days I spent with Don in that he was always the man with the positive response. His values will be part of mine as time goes on. What a wonderful friend.

Dear Carol,  We are so sad to hear about Don’s passsing.  We knew Don through IRM and enjoyed his visits here in L’Orignal.  His sense of humor and stories are memorable. Sadly, the last time we saw Don was at his retirement party here last June.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him….

Carol, I simply cannot put into words how deep a loss this is for me and Don’s friends at Ivaco. I find myself switching from tears to bursts of laughter as I recall some of the pranks Don was so good at pulling. Don was the most generous person I have ever known, always willing to go the extra mile to make sure people were happy. He made sure every minute with someone would be memorable. I will forever cherish the wonderful memories of the time we spent together. My most sincere condolances, Carol.
Love,

Carol, it is with heavy hearts that we send our sincere condolences to you on the passing of our dear friend, Donnie.
If he can’t be here on earth with us any longer, then take comfort in knowing that he is in the arms of Our Lord right now.
Don and I were classmates of Donnie’s at LCHS and worked on class reunions with him throughout all of these years.
Cindy went to St. Anthony’s School with Donnie and we would reminisce of fond memories when we would see each other at church.
May God bless you, comfort you and hold you close to His heart in the months ahead.  We will miss Donnie’s smile.

Carol:
Words cannot express our sadness over the sudden passing of Donnie.  An ex co-worker, a good friend and an excellent pinochle player.  We will certainly miss him.  I’m sure one of his top priorities and wishes for his friends would be that they support you and continue to keep you involved with our activities – and we will.  With deepest sympathy.

Carol, I am very saddened about your loss and you have my sincerest sympathies.  I knew Don as a business colleage when he called on me as the face of IRM for the past 16+ years.  He ranked at the top of my list for customer support, personal dedication and genuine friendship.  We spoke multiple times after his retirement and it was so enlightening to hear how he was enjoying life.  He will be missed…
