Donald J. Steely, 66
Donald J. Steely, 66, of Lancaster, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his residence.
He was the husband of Janis L. Snoke Steely, with whom he was married to for 34 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Lloyd W. and Edna R. Schlereth Steely.
Don had worked for the Donnelly Corporation in Lancaster for 43 years, until his retirement in 2007.
Very interested in science, rocketry and aeronautical engineering, he had designed a bi-propellant rocket, fueled by liquid and oxygen, with a speed of 600 mph and a 10 mile ceiling. He had been recognized by the US Air Force for his studies in aerospace. As a young man, he was the Reserve Grand Champion of the Lancaster County Science Fair and traveled to Seattle, WA for the National Science Fair.
He also enjoyed photography, and was very devoted and dedicated to the care of his wife.
