Charles W. Sloden, 82

Charles W. Sloden Sr., 82, of Willow Street died at Willow Valley Lakeside on Sunday, January 29, 2006.

Charles was a battery mechanic at Lancaster Battery for 28 years.  He was also a production worker at Kerr Glass, Warner Lambert and at Kellogg’s where he worked until age 77.

His memberships included; Willow Street Lions Club, West Willow Senior Citizens Club, The 300 Club, Millersville VFW Post 7294 and the Willow Street United Church of Christ Church.  He volunteered at the Willow Valley Retirement Center where he was in charge of the bingo games.  He previously bowled for the Lancaster Automotive League.  He was proud of his grandchildren and great grandchild.

Charles served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII serving in Normandy, Northern France and Germany.

Born in Lynn, Mass. he was the son of late Frank and Marion Bailey Sloden.  He was married 62 years to Helen Elizabeth Foernsler Sloden.  Surviving besides his wife are three daughters; Sandra L. Cauler of Mt. Joy; Brenda J. married to Glenn Book of Lancaster and Anne E. Sloden of Lancaster; one son, Charles Jr. married to Judith Sloden of Lancaster; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers; Robert and Francis Sloden both of Lynn, Mass.; one sister, Anna Muise of Worcester, Mass.

He was preceded in death by one brother; Edward Sloden.

Funeral services will be held at Willow Street United Church of Christ Church, 2723 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street on Thursday at 11:00am.  Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 am until time of service.  Interment in Willow Street United Church of Christ Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Willow Street Lions Club, PO Box 26, Willow Street, PA 17584.
