Charles Z. Spoo, Jr., 85

Charles “Pop” Spoo, Jr., 85, of Lancaster, PA passed away Friday, October 14, at home, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Lancaster PA, son of the late Charles Spoo and Edna (Boose) Ranck. He was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division and was also in the Marine Reserves. He was a truck driver most of his life and friends and family knew Charlie as a hard working man who always did everything he could to provide for his family and was always willing to help out a friend. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time camping at the shore and in the mountains in Clearfield and Clinton Counties. He was a long time member of the Lancaster VFW, American Legion and Pequea Valley Sportsmen Association. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean E. (Tompkins) and two daughters, Charlene A. (Lenny) Quintavalla of Maiden, NC and Sandra J. Duncan of Lancaster, PA. He had four grandchildren, Susan Feiler, Charles Dull, Cody Duncan and Elise Duncan. He had four great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Reese and a sister Margaret Witmer. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law George Duncan and a sister Marilyn Conley. Private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family as per Charlie’s request.
