Charles F. Frey, 90

October 12, 2016

Surrounded by the family he loved so well, Charles F. Frey, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, after a brief illness. Born April 28, 1926 in Manor Township, he was the son of the late Armor P. and Mary (Charles) Frey. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Beulah “Bea” (Landis) Frey. His first wife of 60 years, Ann (Breneman) Frey, died in 2005.

Charles grew up on a farm on Turkey Hill in Manor Township. His father started bottling and delivering milk door-to-door to survive during the Great Depression. When Charles became a young adult, he and his brothers purchased the small dairy from their father, and grew it into Turkey Hill Dairy and Minit Markets until it was sold in 1985. After retirement, he became an avid golfer.

Charles was a life-long member of Manor Church, serving in many roles over the years. He was passionate about serving God and seeing God’s kingdom grow, stewarding wisely all he had been given. As a result, he loved people and was committed to sharing his resources to relieve suffering in the world. Throughout Charles’ life, he was involved with many organizations: World Vision, Water Street Ministries, Ravi Zacharias International Ministries, Messiah College, Lancaster Bible College, among others. He was a quiet but significant mentor to many, passing on his wisdom about life and business.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by four children: Linda (Frey) Barto, Philip married to Pati (Going) Frey, Michael Frey, and Nicholas married to Miriam (Martin) Frey. Five grandchildren also survive him: Tammy married to Scott Ream, Lauren and Jared Frey, Andrew and Molly Frey, as well as two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Connor Ream. Also surviving is one sister, Eunice Steinbrecher. Five siblings predeceased Charles: Glenn, Emerson, Pauline, and Jay Frey, and Lillian (Frey) Lehman. Charles is also survived by Bea’s family: Michael married to Beverly (Byers) Landis, Tedford, and Dorine married to Gerald Offenbaker, Jr., as well as two grandchildren, Jessica married to Joshua Stoppard and Christina married to Dustin Giffing, and two great-grandchildren, Nyomi Stoppard and Caroline Giffing.

Funeral services will be celebrated promptly at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Manor Church, 530 Central Manor Road, Lancaster, PA. Viewings will be held at the church from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 19, and again from 9:00 to 11:00 the day of the service. Interment will be at Creswell Cemetery in the afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made to Water Street Ministries, 210 S. Prince St., Lancaster PA 17603, or Friendship Community, 1149 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.

Condolences to the Family

I just found out today, I’m saddened. Aunt Ann & Uncle Charles were loving people who took me in as their Fresh Air child from the age of 9 to 15. The best summers were spent with them. Whether we were boating, going to church, delivering meals on wheels or visiting turkey hill, we were busy.  I was very blessed to know them and feel like part of the family. I was their Puerto Rican Child from NY. They will always be remembered with the fondest memories.
Phil, Linda, Mike & Nick, my deepest condolences. ❤️

Dear Mike,  You probably do not remember me but I was your Kindergarten teacher at Ann Letort Elementary School.  I remember you because you stood out in the class as a delightful student.  I was so sorry to read your Dad’s obit in the paper.  He was indeed a wonderful Christian and gave much to others.  You were fortunate to have the blessing of such a wonderful parent.  I pray that your faith, family and friends will be therefor you during this time of great grief.  I am wondering how life has treated you since I had you in class.  I hope it was kind to you.  I am living in Willow Valley with my husband.  If you ever have an opportunity I would love to hear from you.  I can be reached at 717-464-4986.  I send you my condolences and keep you in my prayers.  Kathy Dauber

Charles, thank you for growing into the person God wanted you to be and for how many people you influenced in your life. You and Uncle Emerson built up an awesome company that tried to honor God in all things!!  I was privileged to work for you both at the Dairy. You hired the man who became  my husband and am proud to be married to for over 28 years.  God has blessed you deeply and we have been blessed to have known you and have worked for you.
Sincerely, Becky Fisher Gerhart & husband Dave Gerhart

To the Frey Family,
Our sincere sympathy to the entire Frey family during your loss of this dear man.  Charles was a true soldier of the Lord.  He was a warrior who spread God’s love all around him and continued to fight to bring as many souls to heaven as he was able, making it his life mission.  I am confident there are many people that will walk Heaven’s streets because of his efforts.  He ran his race well and is an example to all of us what “being Jesus hands and feet” looked like on this earth.  Blessings to all of you.  I know you will miss your husband, father and grandfather.  This world is a far better place because of Charley Frey.
With Love and Sympathy,
John and Chris Ressler

Dear Frey family. Ann Marie and I share in your loss. We learned to love Charles and Ann after we shared on Mission Board meetings in 1978. They entertained us often when we lived in Lancaster. Without their substantial investment in the Miami church planting in the mid eighties endeavour it would not have prospered as it has. Charles legacy is a great encouragement. May Gods presence be deeply felt at the memorial service.
