Charles A. Park, 91

Charles A. Park, 91, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at his Manheim Township Home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late James and Clara AuWerter Park. Charles and his wife Carol A. Long Park marked 46 years of marriage last March.

He graduated from Columbia High School in 1939, and then attended Millersville State Teacher’s College for two years. Charles served in the US Army during World War II as a staff sergeant flying 50 missions as a top turret gunner on bombers in the Pacific with the 3704th Army Air Force Base Unit. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars and the American Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

Charles had been an ice cream account salesman for Penn Dairies for 29 years and then also for Jack & Jill Ice Cream. He enjoyed woodworking and made a large dollhouse that adorns his basement.

Surviving in addition to his beloved wife Carol are three daughters: Gail Tomlinson of Lancaster, Betsy Kline, wife of Steven of Oman and Suzanne Park of New York City; two sons: Charles A. Park, Jr., husband of June of Columbia and Douglas J. Park of Lancaster; two grandchildren: Jim Tomlinson, husband of Paige of Neffsville and Deborah Tomlinson and Tim Miller of Lancaster; and three great-grandchildren: Nicole, Zachery and Ryan Tomlinson all of Neffsville. Charles was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Park.
