Carole A. Fischer, 71

Carole A. Fischer, 71, of Lancaster, passed away unexpectedly on Friday December 15, 2006 at her home.

Born in Upper Darby, PA, Carole was the daughter of the late George and Margaret (O’Reilly) Lumbard. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Columbia and resided in Lancaster since 1961.

Next to her husband, Carole’s biggest passion was her grandchildren. Her demeanor with people of all ages made her very popular with everyone she met – and if that person was a baby, it always ended with a kiss. When her family was young, she tolerated tent camping trips, opting later in life for luxury cruises with her husband and friends. Always quick with a story or a joke, her keen sense of humor and excellent storytelling was captivating. Her eternal optimism and friendly character left lasting impressions on all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining and writing poetry. A world traveler, she would travel and sightsee many destinations around the globe throughout her life.

Carole will be remembered as her husband’s best friend, her children’s’ loving caretaker, and her grandchildren’s’ biggest fan. A quote she was fond of read, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Robert Fischer, and by her seven children: Anthony married to Gail Fischer of Audubon, PA; Timothy married to Margaret Fischer of Sparta, NJ; Vincent married to Deanna Fischer of Audubon, NJ; Theresa Baker of Mountville; Christine Hansson of Willow Street; John married to Michelle Fischer of Lancaster, and Mark married to Jennifer Fischer of Lancaster. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, ranging in ages from 2 to 17, and a sister Margaret, married to William Brill of Mount Joy.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 11AM-12Noon at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA, with Mass to follow at 12Noon. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: ATTN Web Gift, Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540, Tax ID #: 20-2329938  www.autismspeaks.org.
