Carmen Spadea
Carmen Spadea of 1745 Wheatland Ave. Lancaster passed away on Friday morning November 2, 2007 after living a long and fulfilled life. She had been a patient at Lancaster General Hospital for the greater part of the last 6 weeks and was being treated for complications due to a serious fall at home.
Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico on 6/22/16, she was the daughter of Rodrigo Martinez Lopez de Victoria and Zoraida Flores. She was married to Dominick Spadea for 32 years who preceded her in death. She graduated from St. Anthony Catholic Academy in San Juan, Puerto Rico with a certification in secretarial work for a variety of a business in Puerto Rico and Lancaster. She worked 10 years in child health care services for Lancaster General Hospital and the South East Lancaster Health Services.
Carmen was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. In earlier years, she belonged to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she supported the elementary school as a home room mother, assistant Girl Scout leader and a variety of other school related activities. Her personal interests include a variety of crafts such as knitting, crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed birding and spending summers at the beach in Cape May, New Jersey. In recent years she was a member of the Jewels Bowling League.
Surviving is a daughter, Carmen T. Klingensmith and grandson, Andrew T. Klingensmith with whom she resided for 26 years. She is also survived by two sisters, Perla Kirchner, of Arizona and Rosita Flores, of Florida. Two sisters Eliza Brown and Ester Shafer, and two brothers, Roberto Martinez and Armando Martinez preceded her in death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a public viewing on Monday evening, November 5, 2007 from 7-9pm at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St. Lancaster, the Rosary will be recited on Monday night at 8:30pm. A second viewing will be held on Tuesday morning at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave, Roherstown from 10-11am. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery following Mass.
